geez that’s just so bad. Nothing like “blaming the kids” instead of having a look at yourself as a coach. Sydney generally showing the kids are pretty decent when properly led
I’m sure Lee Hagipantelis will sort it out
Zadkid will be first head on the block, this week I reckon.
Problem is both Brisbane and Newcastle can’t afford the payouts to dump a coach.
Unless you’ve heard something I haven’t, I’d be a bit surprised. Brisbane aren’t exactly tipped to pull up any trees this season.
Newcastle put 4 past Perth without response.
Just watched the west vs brisbane highlights. What the fuck was Freke doing for bang averages free kick? He just jumped out of the way. Should have been a very standard save.
Needs to be some sort of official statement from the league and a fine or punishment to Brisbane for that display, as well as the ref that let it happen. Prime time FTA game and I think maybe 5 of the last 30 mins were played with a solid 6-7 Brisbane players going down with cramp, with Zadkovich proactively signalling them to do so.
Unfortunately a perfect display of why the game is going down the toilet in many ways.
I agree. If they actually did shit about it though Redmayne would get red carded every other match.
Sky blue glasses and all, Redmayne has (as has been noted here on the forum) made timewasting an artform and shows at least some self-awareness of game management.
Zadkid clutching his hammy and shouting to Freke, only for Freke to go down immediately is taking the piss, IMO.
The fact that this started early in the second half is just ridiculous. Time wasting in the 80-something’th minute, I get it. Time wasting in the 50-something’th minute, get fucked.
I also hate when Redmayne does it tbh. But when a whole team is doing it for much of the second half, and you have vision of the manager telling his players to do it, much worse.
I get player safety too but cramp is not a serious injury, doesn’t take 2-3 minutes to go away with play stopped the whole time.
Fuck that, cramp… you go down… unlucky
Even in the liverpool v fulham game, Iwobi caught one square in the nuts - kicked it out and then went down. Ref told him to get up or get off…
We’re in the wrong thread!
I’ve said it once and i’ll said it again, if there’s a stop in the game, they should be taken off for 5 minutes for medical attention
I’d love such a rule like this to come in.
Ref: “You’re telling me you’re injured, then off you go for a few minutes until the next stoppage”
Technically, no rule change is required. Currently an injured player has to leave the field and cannot return until the ref waves them back on. The ref merely needs to take their time waving them back on.
Players rarely go off though. They get treated on the pitch, get up and keep on going, especially in cases of time wasting. 100% needs to be a massive crackdown and have them enforce the rules to a tee. In terms of the Brisbane game, there 100% needs to be sanctions on the coach and the players. The fact that that’s the way the carried on is an absolute joke. Minimum one game bans should be enforced. The fact of the matter is that simulating injury can cause real injuries to not be treated as seriously
You have both the option of yellow cards for delay of restart and also for unsporting behaviour. Agreed players with clearly bogus cramp should be asked to leave the pitch. I think an easy way to do it would be a clear directive top to bottom that players asked to leave wont be waved on for 30 seconds or so - thats easily enough for the ball to travel the length of the field and sufficient deterrent. Or ask them to leave at nearest line but re-enter only from the 4th official - then youd see them have to run around the pitch to get back on. It would be easy enough for a ref to communicate to a player on the ground “up now or go off” after a few seconds and with some common sense applied- eg more lenient if there was a heavy tackle. Goalkeepers should absolutely be penalised for holding the ball too long as per the rules as well.
We reckon that keepers were holding the ball for at least 15 seconds in the Sydney game last weekend.
