People trying to hype up that free kick in injury time.
The keeper could have almost stood still and headed it away.
Did it take a little deflection? Couldnāt tell in the ground
Yeah, I called for our ALW keeper to be dropped for the exact same weak hands the other week.
Accidentally posted this in last weeks thread.
Just watched the west vs brisbane highlights. What the fuck was Freke doing for bang averages free kick? He just jumped out of the way. Should have been a very standard save.
The quality of keeping in the league seems to have taken a massive nose dive in the last couple of seasons.
Except when they play us.
I never really thought about keepers specifically but now that you say it, definitely true. Feels like every keeper in the league is capable of a huge blunder at any given moment, no Maty Ryanās or Vukovicās that you feel have potential to make it big overseas.
Seems like there are a lot of young keepers too - possible that with cut salaries a keeper is one of the first positions to be sacrificed to take a gamble on a younger keeper on lower wages.
What about Poulsen?
It also bears mentioning that any keeper that has a good season here is probably going to get snapped up by an overseas club. Even Paul Izzo managed a decent move and is playing regularly in Denmark. I also remember how utterly bad Izzo was when he was the same age as some of the starting keepers in this league now. It is a period of transition, I guess.
DId you watch the City vs Auckland game? Failed to trap a ball rolling at him leading to an own goal. Was one of the worst keeping blunders in A-League history (and there have been many). But in fairness I agree he is decent and so is Lawrence Thomas. Kurto not bad either. I suppose I more so meant young Aussie talent coming through the ranks.
In fairness, Pijnakerās back pass had so much pace on it, you could almost say it was a shot.
Fair, and also aimed right towards the goal which you should always try and avoid.
Probably fair to say itās a younger group of keepers, but the mistakes seem to be more about fundamental skills rather than decision making or anticipation where youād expect to see more errors from younger keepers.
The goalkeeper should be the first player any coach recruits. No other position on the field has more impact on the final score.
Itās because there is far too much emphasis being placed on their ball playing ability rather than their shot stopping ability.
I dunno man, for the most part thatās been fairly poor also.
