SFC player of the season: Mak (I’ve got a feeling he’s gonna be a monster)

SFC golden boot: Alfie

First coach sacked: Warren Moon

Random predictions for this season:

Wanderers start really well, but then after a bad loss around round 7/8 Rudan begins to lose the dressing room and they plummet out of finals positions.

Michael Zullo will play a game.

Leckie gets under 5 G+A for the whole season while Tilio continues to be benched for him.

Corica out, Arnold in. (Not a sacking, J2 coaching job or something)

Buhagiar arrested for stealing oxygen

This will have the tightest finish to the league in some time.

Last year I was fairly confident in my guesses (and won so there ya go) but this year I’m really not. I think 3 or 4 teams will be fighting for top spot until the very end, and a whole bunch will be fighting for 6th. Perth and Brisbane 100% getting battered all year though

Random predictions for this season:

SFC

  • Brattan gets another long term injury early on and barely features across our season
  • ALF goes in the jan window
  • We consistently average more than 12k at home this season. Regardless of biblical rain events
  • Yazbek and Kucharski cement themselves in the starting 11
  • Caballo turns out to be a total donkey
  • Goals are largely spread around. No one gets into double figures

Non-SFC

  • western and MacArthur crowd figures improve fairly substantially as people begin to seriously commit to the clubs
  • Victory average more than 15k this season.
  • Nani chucks a Sturridge and is a monumental flop
  • Perth are a complete rabble with several players angling for an exit in jan
  • Brisbane ownership situation comes to a head and their license is acquired by the league
  • Cummins rips it up in the first 8 weeks and gets onto the pitch in Qatar and scores for the Roos.
  • wests continue to embarrass themselves, this time in some new and incredible way.
  • Ninko gets a few goals and assists, not enough to be considered worth the cap space and visa spot, but not so few that he’s a flop. He fades from all our memories after he retires at the end of this season and pens some kind of ‘i made a mistake’ post in mid 2023.
  • All Sydney derbies are a bore both on and off the pitch, with all sfc fans now convinced that the big blue is the one that matters.
  • A big blue kicks off with handbags (on or off the pitch)
  • An f3 derby ends up being one of the games of the season
  • VAR is suspended at some point after persistent fuck ups and mis-use resulting in massive fan backlash.

Player of the grand final: Valon Berisha (City)

Golden boot: Maclaren

Best new signing: Nani (sadly)

Best young player (U23): Garang Kuol (despite only being here for half of the season)

Biggest flop signing: Milos Ninkovic

SFC player of the season: Robert Mak

SFC golden boot: ALF

First coach sacked: Rudan

Random predictions for this season:

  • Wanderers to run 8th more or less all season
  • Macarthur’s cup run against mostly NPL teams put them on a hype train they can’t live up to in the league
  • Wanderers sack Rudan after a slow start to the season, getting in just before Sydney sacks Corica
  • Poor defensive record to cost Sydney a finals berth
  • Jets to have a good season on the back of strong signings
  • JayFC to create another Zadkovich montage by the end of the season as Ruben’s frustrations boil over on the touchline game after game
  • Brisbane to be on the brink all season after everyone has officially had enough of Bakrie Group

End of season standings:

1: victory
2: bulls
3: city
4: Sydney

6: mariners
7: western suburbs
8: Adelaide

A reminder that entries for the predictions competition close at COB this Friday

So, entries for the 2022/23 ALM Season Prediction Competition are now closed. If you still want to enter I will put you in the spreadsheet (with an asterix) but you cannot win the competition.

The first graphic shows the predicted end of season table according to the collective wisdom of all 19 SFCU Forum members who participated. Most have a Melbourne team as first and second with Brisbane and Perth fighting it out for the wooden spoon.

Below are all the predications as entered into my spreadsheet, please let me know if I made any typos.

@Paulska really hates NSW…

And look at that! He put Victorian teams first, second and third

I’m also one of three who predicted wanderers ahead of us. Not sure what that says about me

Someone has some explaining to do.

If NSW goes well, then i’ll be happy and forget about the predictions :stuck_out_tongue: if they go badly and Vic teams go better, at least I go good in the comp!

As we go into the World Cup break, here is an update on how the predictions competition is going.

The first table shows the collective wisdom of the SFCU forum. Perth and Wellington are currently the most accurately predicted teams, followed by City, Macarthur, Sydney FC and Newcastle. The teams about which this forum is most deluded are (in order) Western United, Wanderers and MVFC.

Well on my way to achieving my goal of winning last season and coming last this season.

Solidly mid table. Don’t make waves…

I have the most points of anyone! That’s good, right?

I am not saying anything.

Endless laughs here. Had Victory in 2nd and Macarthur winning the final, Adelaide 8th and Mariner’s 9th. Least I had us in 6th.

Ninkovic wasnt as much of a flop, not far off on Irankunda, and no Boehly takeover of Western
