I’d be more comfortable starting with JCP/Matthews in CB than starting with Kucharski or Wood as CF. Kucharski at least has the added benefit that he can play anywhere across the front line, Wood is currently the biggest loser in this situation.

Yeah I thought he was more of a left back.
You know he could be the right profile for the left sided defender in a back 3…
182 games as LB with 30 as CB. Could do worse, I mean his CV is pretty decent
Aside from going home after school, it was the best part about getting the bus home.
I miss the ‘Overheard’ section, and the ‘Whose looking at you’. The public transport version of Tinder.
On a positive, He’d be match fit…
Not quite. After the current triple-round-robin ends they have another 5 rounds of single round-robin in a split league. That will run through to late Nov.
ahhh my bad
So if we went with Calver, then we’d have to wait till December. 2 months I guess may be a bit much
I didn’t see him in the NPL, but agree that JK doesn’t seem like he’s the 9 we need… seems better suited as a 10 or wide player, similar to Sega.
Wood could be the style of player, but has a fair bit of a step up required… just basic stuff like staying onside and sniffing out the tap-ins. I can’t remember him shooting much or getting on the end of a header either. He’s good for the press though.
Having both Wood and JK as back up strikers would be fine, especially if this Polish bloke needs time to get into the team - which should result in significant minutes for them.
I don’t know about Jayden as a wide player.
He doesn’t isolate and beat defenders 1v1. I can’t really recall him crossing really well. He’s not going to terrorise with pace.
He’s a 9. His best skill is his finishing. He’s just not strong enough to take on Aleague Mens CBs.
A couple more ‘out there’ options - these are younger players playing abroad, who could potentially benefit as well from first-team senior football.
Dimitri Valkanis - Currently in Greece with AEK Athens youth team.
Liam Bonetig - Currently in Scotland with Celtic’s youth team
Sebastian Esposito - Currently in Italy with Lecce.
I know I’m scraping the bottom of the Transfermarkt barrel here, but there’s about as much choice as the sandwich list at an outback service station.
No to all 3 of them. We’ve got the youth, we just need at least one senior CB with a bit of experience. I’d put my hand up, but my back hurts
This is why I think we’ve messed up with our recruitment. If we go in with a 4-2-3-1, there’s every possibility we go into the season with this midfield, assuming Lolley is fit for round one:
-Costa–Ouahim–Lolley-
------Sena–Caceres------
Caceres can do a job at #6 but its taking him away from his best position, and a position he really shined in last season. It also pushes Hollman out of the first team, where he was becoming very comfortable.
Talay has a good track record with bringing in quality foreigners, but for me it is a big risk to bring in someone like Sena who has had known serious health issues and is just coming back to professional football. Jury is out whether Ouahim is going to be good enough to justify a foreign spot, in my opinion.
Meanwhile, we’re down to the bare bones at the back and have made no signings to sort that out. Our squad has a large imbalance about it and I think its going to stop us competing for silverware this season. A single long-term injury to our back four at this stage is going to really screw us.
I suspect that the original plan was:
Ouahim Cáceres Lolley
Hollman Sena
Maybe we even enquired about Costa for the LW position but it didn’t look to be progressing until much later, after we signed Ouahim, and was too good an opportunity to turn down?
Delbridge?
It does make me wonder whether that’s the case, or if it was some opportunity signing that came up a bit later in the piece.
Awfully risky to have four foreign midfield signings. Sure, a lot of eggs were probably put in the basket to get Sainsbury, but as one of very few Aussie CB options available at the time, that too was risky.
Hi Andy.
I suspect we got a fair way down the line with Sainsbury, add him in and recruitment would be close to 10/10, plenty of quality and plenty of depth.
But without him we have a gaping hole / no depth in the back four and Ouahim looks a luxury that we maybe didn’t need after Costa suddenly happened.
Maybe we’re going to re-train Costa as a CB?
is he the new kruno lovrek?
He hasn’t been spotted in double denim yet.
