ALM: United & Divided - 2024/5 United Round discussion

I think one of the silliest things they’ve done, is to have NSW based teams play against each other. They should have had NSW teams play against others, that way you can at least guarantee an ok crowd at every single game, rather than a big crowd at two or so games based on derbies and then no one else really going to watch the others games because there’s no local support

I am actually okay with the spare F3 derby match being played in Unite Round in Sydney. My only gripe is that it is played on Friday night cutting a good chunk of people out that would have definitely travelled on the weekend.

I am also now pissed the ladies have been moved to Kogarah adding significant travel time to Mariners and Jets fan. We were going to the 2pm Saturday game but won’t now as my wife finishes work at 1pm. Would have got Lambert Park by kickoff. No chance at Kogarah.

I see it more as a logical view. NJ, CCM, WSW, SFS, Mac are all teams that can fairly easily get to games here and potentially go to multiple games. Less likely to get a big crowd at multiple games if you have two out of state teams. Especially when some of these teams are struggling for crowd numbers in general.

You still would have missed kickoff as the game was at Leichhardt Oval.

Well if it was played in Leichhardt you’d be watching a rugby match with the pitch quality…

All valid points

Wouldn’t Kogarah be the same time when you take the ED?

So how long are we stuck with this nonsense for?

This season, unless the APL try to persist with it.

Which fingers crossed they won’t because its such a failure.

This is a cool idea, just saw on the Facebook

" Calling all Kiwis living in Australia 📯🇳🇿 This weekend is your chance to watch your homeland teams FREE*!

Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC BOTH play in Sydney at Unite Round this Sunday and all New Zealand passport holders can redeem a free double pass for the double header 🔥

Whichever side of the NZ derby divide you sit on, this is a day out not to be missed"

To go along with the train driver strike there’s now a scaffolding strike as well.

So Juan Mata has bought a stake in San Diego FC but not, it would seem, in Western Sydney Wanderers.

MLS has way more money in it and will have way more money in it in future than the A-League.

Western Sydney is just a final payday before the next step of his career post-playing, it would be insane for him to throw away money investing here.

I don’t think that putting it in a town lacking enough hotel rooms to house the players and officials, let alone any fans, makes a whole lot of sense.

Gosford and Newcastle could make some sense. Easily accessible from Sydney, nice locations for a day out with family, each town has a team in the league.

Yes, cause our capital and cities which regularly host major conferences and cruise ships are famous for lacking hotel rooms

Remember DT’s grand final cruise ship extravaganza idea? Easily dumber than anything ever posted in this thread.

I jest, but Wollongong apparently has 1766 rooms, while 14 clubs sending two teams of 25 is already 700 people. If we didn’t make our players twin-share like peasants, they would actually take up almost half the total capacity.

Granted Wollongong is the one on the list that would have the biggest issue, but we also have so many air bnbs that people like me can’t afford to buy…
