Someone could still field an ineligible player or line up and be docked points. Until the next round matches are being played, I’m refusing to accept our exit.
Desperate stuff in the final few minutes of the JDT v Ulsan match. Good crowd too.
Wow. Own goal and Johor win in the last seconds.
Pattham and Jeonnam with a draw which I think means City needs a +6 win, or 5-0, to progress as group winner, or for Kitchee to lose (which gets them in as the 3rd 2nd team on GD)
Kobe scored in the 44th to help MC, before Kitchee equalised before HT. 1-1 at the break.
Kobe again in the 87th and Kitchee equalised in the 91st.
2-2 it stands at the end.
Kitchee progress and City out.
Yep, Kitchee equalise in injury time in both halves. First goal from Dejan Damjanovic, the “cheap knock-off Zlatan” who terrorised us for Suwon a few years back. Second goal to knock City out from Raul Baena.
Victory fans must be pissing themselves tonight.
Knockout draw in the East is:
Daegu vs Jeonbuk in the all-Korean tie
Bangkok Glass vs Kitchee in the Heart had a piss-easy draw tie
Malaysia’s JDT (who knocked out Kawasaki and Ulsan) vs Urawa
Vissel Kobe vs Yokohama in the all-Japanese tie
It’s not unusual that these aren’t being played until August, but the Western knockouts & the final aren’t until February next year(!). So for whoever makes the final from the East, it will almost be like playing three separate tournaments.
Our results were obviously terrible, but for City not to get out of that group? eeesh…
Knocked out on goal difference really. I don’t think anybody expected the Thai team to be so dominant.
They are the old Bangkok Glass though, so one of the stronger Thai teams historically.
Bloody hell, it’s a sad day for Australian football when we drop below the likes of teams from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and North Korea.
NPL clubs should be better than that!
Have they decided what we’re doing for 2023-24?
Our 2020-21 teams qualified for 2022. Is it the 2021-22 or 2022-23 winner qualifying for the 1+0 in 2023-24?
Typical AFC madness awarding 0 points for the pandemic related pullouts. Always has been and always will be a tinpot confederation.
They ignored 2020. But even if you ignored 2021 we wouldn’t reach 1+1.
on the plus side though who wouldn’t turn down a potential away trip to the Northern Mariana Islands?
If we’re not putting double figures against clubs from the Northern Mariana Islands, we should just move back to the OFC.
Mind you getting the AFC Cup spots should at least mean no competing against teams from the $$$ countries.
Should be a real shot at silverware for the teams who miss out on the ALM Championship
(And also for the winner of the Australia Cup)
