Cáceres and Teague offer a bit more creativity than Balard next to Irvine-O’Neill, who he’s pretty settled with.
From the selections I’m guessing he’s pretty settled with midfield, but wants to see more attacking and defensive options.
Perhaps Triantis over Balard because he might be considered at the back too?

I don’t get why a squad has only 5 midfielders when you potentially need 4 on the pitch. Granted Rowles can push forward to DM, Goodwin can drop to AM. Its not like they play 4-2-4 all the time. Could have dropped 2 defenders out & brought in Thurgate & Nisbet or Ballard.
Based off the squad I guess we’re probably going for something like

Miller- Geria-Burgess-Degenek- Behich
Irvine- Caceres
Arzani- Yengi- Goodwin
Toughest to pick is those two attacking players- we’re stacked at wingers but last game he had McGree and Goodwin there, game before that was McGree and Hrustic

Arzani, Tilio, Velupilay, & Borello all getting selected over the likes of Botic, Milanovic, Drew, & Segacic is just odd.
Thurgate probably deserves a look in too - at least based on A-League form of the last season or two.
Borello has 6 goals, 7 assists in 19 games this season which is absoltuely good enough form. But agree with you on the rest.
He’s still fucking bang average though.
Drew had that in 12 games before his move. Borrello is having a decent season at 29, not much more than that. I just don’t see a lot of upside to selecting him. Not likely to start, unlikely to have an impact at that level. Velupilay I still dont get, but Popa brought him in and he scored - he was always getting picked again regardless of form.

I get “hes one of the stars of our big rival so we hate him and cant rate him” thinking but 13 G/A in 19 games is good form and 29 isnt old (and even if he was 5 years older the only two Aussies with a higher G/A this season are Botic and Milanovic). His selection can easily be reasoned based off that…
Hes totally warranted to be selected. He’s absolutely not in the same category as the form of Arzani or Vellupilay.
Nothing really to do with who he plays for. One of the guys I’m suggesting should be there instead plays for them too.
They’re two of the guys I mentioned should probably be there instead. My point in highlighting his age was that if we’re not talking about a starter or someone we think can make a real impact off the bench then taking the younger guys has a greater upside.

I think my point was more that Botic/Milanovic/Drew/Borello are in similar enough form to be in the conversation that you cant really say hes a bad or surprising selection.
