If anybody is looking for a couple hours to pass the time this evening or in the coming days, the full match highlights are here on youtube.
If you don’t have a spare 2 and a bit hours to spend listening to Craig Foster soil himself on national television, there’s a full length penalty shootout video here (and you still can revel in Craig Foster climaxing loudly).
COPA90 have also done a wonderful mini-doco on the night 'Australia Became A Football Nation )
And if that’s not an enough, there’s an Hour long feature film done by the FFA I think as well.
Such a shit penalty call. Fuck VAR
Seen them given before. Im more angry about this performance than the penalty decision.
When do we find out the international playoff opponents? I’m confident we will finish 3rd, but should have too much for Iraq or Lebanon in the other group.
Colombia are currently fifth in Sth America, Uruguay sixth. Even if we beat Lebanon, with of those team will arse fist us.
Has it been confirmed its south America? I thought it was still TBC.
You know it will be
Very poor performance….
That was absolute rubbish.
Satisfied with my decision to never watch these AM Roos games, once again
Only half watched it at work, but same old knock it wide for an ineffective cross to 3 on 1 to be cleared.
Was it though? The arm was up and certainly not in a natural position. Makes sense as a pen to me.
Haven’t seen the whole game, just the highlights, but it’s shocking we couldn’t turn this team over.
100% penalty… if that was down the other end and not awarded there would be uproar
Arnold cares more about the ‘culture’ and ‘family’ than having some sort of idea of how he wants to play, or any sort of Plan B other than (attempting) overlapping fullbacks and crosses into the box.
Not a natural position? People are now expected to jump with arms by their side? The arm came down as he was coming down and fell on the Chinese player’s should and then the ball hit the arm as it was resting on the shoulder. If the shoulder wasn’t there the ball would have not have hit the arm.
The penalty was unlucky in the sense his arm got stuck on the shoulder but I’ve got no problem with it being given.
What was not unlucky was our failure over 90 minutes to move the ball through midfield into the final 3rd and create any chances. One of the more terrible recent performances
That’s how the law has been interpreted for a while now, the arm was up and it hit the arm so it’s a penalty. Like it or not, that’s how the law works now.
The problem is the exact same squad will be picked for the next lot of games, regardless of how much some of them have chucked it in the last 3 qualifiers.
Anyway, international football can go away now, bring on the real stuff this weekend.
Not a pen. He’s being pushed in the side by #5, which is the only reason his arm goes out so wide.
Not the best performance by a long way. But other than Devlin, who else would people realistically suggest GA brings in to start though? Who else is playing regularly right now and performing at a national team level, or any level better than those on the park?
I think at a certain point Australian players reach a level of comfort with each other and the coach that their desire and hunger softens. Beyond our starting elevens, there’s never been a whole lot of outstandingly talented and experienced depth that also starts at a high level of club football. Particularly now. So once a coach establishes who those players are, the hunger softens and comfort level increases. That’s the extra factor, beyond talent and ability, needed to not only win at this level but to win convincingly. And that usually only renews when there’s a change of coach.
