Jake Holman and G Kuol missed our last two penalties.
It would be interesting to see if the South Koreans sent over a strong squad to that competition. They have at least a couple of players who have been called up to the senior NT recently, but seemed to have also left a couple of them out (hard to tell if injuries or some other reason). If they did send a strong squad, I think there’s some hope for the future for us to have made it to the final and to take them to penalties.
“Artisan coffee culture”…pfft.
Coffee doesn’t need a culture. It needs a cup, maybe a sauce under the cup. Thats it!
Technically one isn’t even from the Asian continent…
He’s not even landed in Germany… until you do something - probably best not to got making threats about national team call ups
Social media really getting into the Arnie hate about that. Apparently its Arnie “losing another after he lost Volpato” etc.
Think hes learnt from Arzani and Kuol and fast tracking into the national team because theyve got the X-factor might not be the best for their developement.
The Arnie hate is just comical at this point. Alright Nestory, go play for Tanzania or Burundi, I fucking dare you.
For all his talent, his mental game and the advice he seems to be getting seems absolutely dog shit
Surely though the idea is to blood the younger players to lock them into our natuonal team? I remember thats what Poland did years ago and managed to lock in a few decent youth players
I know he’s young but it’s such a poor attitude from the bloke. It comes across as a threat like hes an absolute superstar. You catch more bees with honey mate.
Was that when friendlies locked you in to that national team though?
It’s only competitive fixtures that locks a player in now. I’m not one for dishing out senior caps just for the sake of it.
He can play for Tanzania and Burundi until his heart is content. Don’t forget that this is the same player who thought he wasn’t ready for Olyroo selection only a month ago.
We haven’t lost Volpato.
And it turns out that what game time he did get at Roma was probably trying to coax us into picking him for the WC to boost his transfer value (180 minutes of Serie A in the weeks leading up to the WC, 30 out or a possible 2000 minutes off the bench afterwards).
I don’t think we should be bullied into selections, I don’t think we should knee-jerk unwarranted selections like Arzani in 2018 and Kuol in 2022 which in retrospect look absurd after the hype cycle subsides.
Selections should be earned, and if we miss a few prima donnas [EDIT: actually, can someone suggest a gender-neutral alternative that conveys the same thing without the sexist undertones?] then so be it.
Of course that’s the idea, but us losing him to Tanzania or Burundi is not something we should be worried about. And if he does that, more power to him, however he’d be taking a hit to his profile and future marketability by doing so, not to mention absolutely zero chance of doing anything meaningful with those two teams.
It would be like an investment banking firm being worried a candidate might choose to work at the local woolies instead of your company.
But it’s a chance to find a reason to hate on Arnold because of his history at Sydney FC.
The kid has got some talent. Sure, nobody is denying that.
But he’s also raw, immature, and inexperienced. He’s 18 for fucks sake. He doesn’t know shit from shoe polish, and him coming out and saying he could field offers from XY nation in Africa is just proof of that.
Sure, he’s performed well in the A-League, but the media hype has gone to his head and he thinks he’s some hybrid superstar of Messi, C.Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic’s DNA.
Personally, the kids overrated. I’m not denying he’s got talent, but Adelaide were very lax on him. He’s going to get a very rude and abrupt wake up call when he arrives in Germany, and in the words of Alan Rickman’s Severus Snape in Harry Potter he’s going to discover that fame isn’t everything. In Germany he’s going to be an absoloute nobody. If aything, he’ll be just another African kid with some talent.
Look at Elvis Kamsoba. People were off sprouting similar things when he got picked by Australia’s Shame after a entertaining performance in the Australia Cup. Where is he know? Struggling for game time in mid-teir Indonesia, having been capped only a half dozern times by Burundi.
Chris Okonomidis? Terry Antonis? Marco Tillio? Daniel Arzani are just a small handful of Aussie players in the last decade or so who have had a reality check - nay - smackdown having been hyped as the next great big thing.
If he wants to play for Australia, he will. Just needs to knuckle down? Keep his mouth shut and work hard towards it. A few good performances at A-League level, combined with some acrobatics aren’t going to guarantee you a spot in the NT.
One thing to keep in mind is that he’s most likely talking about the u23 & u20 squads when he’s saying he hasn’t been called up.
With the ruckus about not being called up for the olyroos last time I figured that Vidmar & co had talked to him about it all and decided it was best not to select him. Seemingly though they just decided on their own. Their prerogative for sure, but he’s entitled to be a little upset if he wanted to go. He’s most certainly the best u23 winger in the country.
Irankunda might as well have just waved a huge red flag in front of Arnie there. Such a stupid thing to do. Arnie is far too serious and professional to allow that to influence him.
He doesn’t appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Ok, if he was eligible to play for one of the top African nations that regularly make the World Cup you might have a little bit of leverage. The 2 African countries he’s eligible for are the equivalent of American Samoa. Their best hope is FIFA increase the World Cup to 150 teams
I think most people have only read what he said, not listened to it. He dead-batted the question IRL.
Maybe main character syndrome.
Petulant doesn’t quite fit.
