Australian Professional Leagues - They can't be worse than the FFA... can they?

There’s another one that I posted in the other thread from around 11 hours ago.
You didn’t have to look hard to know that there was going to be trouble tonight. That’s why I questioned the lack of extra security.

Even with that, I don’t think anyone would have thought that it would have gone so far.

Well all that discussion is moot. Well done Melbourne (edit: those involved I dont mean every Victory fan because despite popular opinion there are some decent people down there) you stupid criminal fucks. Hope anyone who touched a player, administrator, or security staff gets done.

I thought it was a tribute to the bad old days of the NSL?

Regardless of the who or what happened, something like this happening needs to be addressed, but the APL seem happy to just continue to be silent as they have for days now.

Too soon, mate

All depends on the contract.
It’s not like there has been a huge amount of planning done to date, so any ‘loss’ is small unless damages clauses.

Also probably depends on the financials of the contract.
Is Venues NSW paying a fixed amount to APL, but keeping the gate? If so the threat of a boycott might have them worried.

After the Sydney Cup disaster, and legal action, they might be happy to walk away in the circumstances.

hmmm

“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.”
― Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress

Remember this little gem from the ‘Original Style Melbourne’?

They and the RBB will always do more harm to their club, the league and football in Australia, than any good they do by enhancing atmosphere at games.

Imagine looking at your league, on its way to dying, and happily hammering every nail you can find into the coffin.

At least the footage from last night will replace the footage of Pratten Park as Exhibit A of Australian Sokkah Rioting.

Nothing will replace the footage of a sixty year ethnic bloke crazily waving around a corner flag at Pratten Park. That footage is timeless.

A short list of complete speculation since APL have done a better vanishing act than David Copperfield. ( I posted this on twitter but I think it’s worth sharing here)

1 - The APL is currently imploding, key figures utterly unable to agree on a response, some want to obliterate Active Support, some want to obliterate MV, some want to quit.

2 - Desperately negotiating with Destination NSW, promising to ban MV from the finals series in hope of rescuing the deal they should never have made and which they cannot afford to lose. They bet the farm on this.

3 - Smaller clubs are furious at those who rammed through the deal, blaming them for outcomes that will undoubtedly make finances ever worse. Smaller clubs threatening to walk away in the wake of this shitshow.

4 - Silver Lake are absolutely what the fuck about the whole thing, and considering eating the loss on whatever’s been spent of their $140m by triggering a repurchase clause in their contract.

5 - FA are calling every 30 mins asking when the APL presser is going to be and why the hell they’ve been silent for almost 18 hours.

6 - Hardly anyone has slept, every path forward has collateral damage for some key stakeholder and costs that nobody voting is willing to wear, so they’re gridlocked and refusing to let ‘leadership’ speak for them without permission again.

Remember, this is purely speculation based on my observations and historical knowledge of the situation.
