When you say”inverted fullback” are you using quotation marks or inverted commas?

Known side effect from too much peach baguetting.

I see we’re in a discussion about inverted wingers. Shall I throw in the proverbial hand grenade to this discussion, and start asking about inside forwards?

The inside forward is a classic position.

Playing inside forwards is how you end up with prolapsed wingers.

Which is more what Holosko played (from my addled memory). An inverted winger has to at least be a winger!

At the end of the day, when you get rigid with labels you don’t accurately reflect the movement between positions etc. Every player doesn’t attack in the exact same way each passage, etc etc. Which is why Ninko would sometimes cross from his LAM/inverted role, Holosko would cut inside from his RAM role, Maxi tries to tiki-taka his way to shooting on his left from the left even though that’s his outside foot, etc.

I’d say you can be right - the most prominent player who made a switch in the way you’re describing was CR7 moving to the inverted left circa 2010. For a lot of wingers who have developed since then like Lolley, tho, they’ve usually played in positions and systems with their weaker foot on the outside and largely left the crossing to the fullbacks, usually with some rotation between the wingers to try and catch defenders out. Ie 205 starts at RW vs 88 at LW for Joe according to transfermarkt. At that point, surely you say they are playing with their dominant foot inside as their primary position and switching to their “traditional” side as the exception, not the rule?

Lolley is pretty much a texbook “inverted winger” for us. He holds a wingers position with the majority of his possessions commencing in proximity to the right sideline and primarily progressing the ball towards goal with the intent to shoot or set up with his dominant left foot. A look at his heat maps shows exactly that.

That’s basically the definition no? He’s not an inside forward or a wing back. He’s a winger based on where the bulk of his possessions and off the ball work happen and he’s on the opposite side from the dominant leg orthodoxy.

Makes sense to me. The stupidity begins when you take a word - inverted - and use it with different meanings in the same context.

Though it would have been somewhat amusing if we’d just adopted goofy from surfing/skating. We could have had goofy wingers (and goofy fullbacks in the case of guys like Philipp Lahm).

You could play a Silly Mid Forward in a high pressing formation…

Those swerving valve shots could be googlys. I’ve seen some people call them knuckleballs. Keep football non-seppo!

I’ll be happy to repeat the 3-1 score we put on them last time we played there.I can’t see 3-0 but we’re due for a clean sheet.

If Grant had used his left boob instead of his right for the winning goal in 2020, that technically would have been an inverted nipple.

Also, in Parramatta I believe they are referred to as inverted whingers.

I’ll get my coat….

We should win 6-0 with kuol getting his deserved red card at the 63rd minute as a square up

Carney was an inverted winger in Lolley style.

I’m slightly disappointed “no beach party theme”.

Like, yes, it’s do or die, and we’re more likely to die and have to watch a packed 20K stadium of mostly Coasties celebrating the GF they’ll host there the next week, and so I’d like to brighten up my night!

I didn’t have the cash to get a ticket earlier and left it too late for anything decent, I ended up with literally the last ticket in Bay 29, somehow restricted view but at least I’ll be down the right end near where the rest of us will all be.

Expensive ticket and maybe restricted view but I would regret it more if I didn’t go at all. Gotta be there whatever happens.

Looking forward to being back on that Cove Express for an away game, it’s been far too long.

Rodwell confirmed 2 weeks again there, did we appeal and get denied or just not bother?
