Isn’t Trump firmly in Israel’s corner? On top of the other posts, I just see that as another reason that he wouldn’t actually ask Netanyahu to do something like that. Besides, its not like Netanyahu would seriously listen to peace offerings. His 30+ years as a key Israeli political leader is absolute proof of that.
The US is indicating that there is potentially a ceasefire deal in the making. Blinken just came out stating that Israel has agreed on withdrawal terms as part of a ceasefire deal. Trump would obviously be against this, as it then stops giving a reason for anti-Israel protestors to note vote for anyone.
As much as BN wants the war, it’s obvious they’re having problems. I mean we’re 10 months in and they still don’t have full control over the area. It’s an area of 360km2 and they have numerical, technological and logistical advantages over their enemy. The fact that they’re still not in full control is extremely telling at this stage
History has shown that it’s almost impossible to fully control a region when you’re fighting an insurgency.
Despite nearly 60 years of insurgency warfare, modern, western armies just aren’t equipped to deal with an insurgency. Even with developments and modernised counter-insurgency training, warfare doctrine still revolves around 2 marked combatants flighting conventionally.
The reason is simple. Militaries, armies, and governments are doctrined and bound by rules of warfare. Geneva conventions, rules of engagement, etc etc. And whilst Israel doesn’t mind giving the middle finger to those doctrines when it doesn’t suit them, at the end of the day they’re not fighting another military, or an army. They’re fighting essentially groups of individuals who are motivated not by land control, but an ideology.
In short, no matter how many troops Israel deploys into Gaza, be it 100 or 100,000 and no matter how many Tanks roll down the streets, or no matter how many bombs their fighter jets drop and missiles their attack helicopters fire, they can’t control the area because the area isn’t controlled by a visual physical enemy. They can’t control something that they can’t physically claim from an enemy they can’t necessarily identify when they pop in and out of attacks willy nilly.
Israel may claim to hold a street corner one week, a street corner that has a shop owner on it, but when that shop owner picks up a weapon, shoots a bunch of Israeli troops and then blends back into the population the Israeli Army can bomb the shop corner to rubble, but they still won’t control that shop corner.
The only way that Israel can emerge victorious is by forgoing all modern warfare conventions and fighting unconventionally. And whilst they already flip the middle finger to the likes of Geneva Conventions, I don’t think they’re going to allow their troops to have uncontrolled complete free reign in Gaza. That would result in a genocide.
AOC’s speech at the convention really gave a glimpse into the fact that something must be happening behind the scenes- why else, on the biggest stage for Dems and with all the protests, would she even mention it otherwise
Vote for Trump ( buffoon ) - hypocrisy & war.
Vote for Harris ( idiot ) - hypocrisy & war.
The illusion of choice is hilarious which is why I find the emotional investment people have for politicians is piss funny.
The marionette at the helm of US empire & war machine can literally be anyone & no one has changed anything about America in any way for the past 60 years.
Modern strategic long term geopolitics doesn’t require politicians at all truth be told, just need a face for the people to fight each other over.
I’d beg to differ. Trump had a huge impact globally as well as domestically. Antagonizing China, supporting Russia, tax cuts for the rich, followed by gutting EPA protections as well as UN agreements are absolutely huge. A second Trump term could be even worse globally. Putin is salivating for a Trump election, purely because he’ll win Ukraine, which could potentially destabilize large swathes of Europe.
If project 2025 goes through, the whole of the US will be changed like nothing else. Systems in place for decades would be destroyed and rebuilding something like that would take generations to fix.
Even if it were true that there’s no difference between Trump and Harris on geopolitics (and it’s not - their approaches to Europe, the Middle East and the Americas would all be enormously different), it would not change the fact that they’re enormously different on both social, environmental and economic policy, and those differences mean that futures under either one would be starkly different not just for US citizens but for everyone.
