Long story short. George Soros made a lot of money and thought he should give most of it away. Being descended from Holocaust survivors and victims of Russian pogroms he decided to fund Universities that would promote democracy in former USSR states. Russian propaganda promoted conspiracy theories about George Soros which right wing authoritarians the world over fell for hook, line and sinking.
This all happened before the interweb but the CTs really took off when it strolled into the frame.

Loving the blowup for the Liverpool story. All it was, was his dad saying his son has previously mentioned heād love to buy them, years ago. Nothing about buying them now, thereās been zero offers or expressions of interest. At this stage, the āoutrageā on the suggestion will more than likely get him to put an offer in, rather than anything else.
