Everything is on fire - the US politics thread

I wonder who writes these? Surely not him, but the style is so unique… Capitals, always a reference to how much the people love him, casual tone like the last line. Does he dictate them? Has the writer been instructed to use this style? Does Trump himself edit/approve them? Of all the craziness of the Trump presidency, I just find the process of these comms so odd.

Donald Trump can be explained rather well by this Hot Fuzz quote. I’ve edited it for accuracy.

Nicholas Angel:
[turning his attention to yet another suspicious character, this time a tall, Diet Coke drinking orange man] What’s his story?

Danny Butterman:
Oh, that’s Dopey McGropey

Nicholas Angel:
Go on.

Danny Butterman:
He’s a a filthy rich failed businessman and certified idiot, cosplaying as the President of the United States.

Nicholas Angel:
Uh-huh.

Danny Butterman:
Real name Donald Trump

Nicholas Angel:
Mmm-hmm.

Danny Butterman:
Dad says he’s got a child’s mind.

Nicholas Angel:
Okay.

Danny Butterman:
He lives up Summer Street with his mum and his sister.

Nicholas Angel:
And are they as big of an idiot as he is?

Danny Butterman:
Who?

Nicholas Angel:
The mum and the sister?

Danny Butterman:
Same person.

I believe he does, there was a video last year of him just ranting at an offsider who typed it all out and hit post. Recent White House press releases have followed the same style.

Still astonishing that 170 million chucklefucks either voted for him, or didn’t care enough to vote against him (I think approx. 245M folks are eligible, not all registered of course, and only 75M voted Kamala). Shithole of a country.

It really is mind boggling

Not correct, 78 million voted for him, there weren’t even 170m total votes cast.

Still completely mind-boggling.

Please re-read.

Even when writing an article about Musk literally trying to absolve Nazis of blame for their actions, the New York Times can’t bring themselves to stray from far right talking points.

What ahistorical nonsense.

So Trump invoked the Alien Enemies act, a law from 1798 that allows a President to order deportations of individuals linked to nations or organisations that are at war with the US… A judge put a hold on the order a few hours later and ordered 2 planes that were in the air to return. The thing is that it looks like Trump has ignored the hold at this stage and is continuing.

At the same time, enough Democrats capitulated and passed the latest funding bill. They’re claiming they want to work the the GOP, all the while the GOP is shitting all over everything else. Dems have lost a whole bunch of support with their tokenistic resistance and capitulation. It looks like they can’t figure out whether they should work against Trump, take the higher ground and try to govern bilaterally or just let them fuck the country up themselves.

I still love the whole transgender mice story…

Crazy that despite being the most fastidious of record keepers, there’s zero evidence of the Romans doing anything that could be mistaken for a “Roman salute”.

Yeah but I heard they loved saying “my heart goes out to you”.

Planet America covered this very well.

If the Dems blocked the bill then Trump & Musk get what they want, a shutdown of more public services. Once they’re shutdown there is absolutely no guarantee that they would start them up again when a funding agreement was reached.

I highly recommend Planet America as a balanced source of reporting.

Instead, the republicans got to hand over financing decision-making to the fucking president rather than keeping it. The Democrats, in capitulating, have exited the government funding conversation. Trump is now able to do whatever Elon wants.

Meanwhile Chuck fucking Schumer is off doing a book tour, which I’m sure will be effective in combating the rise of fascism.

Interesting reading.

Their system is so desperately in need of a third party alternative, though I know structurally that’s impossible

im sure they can hold up a few more signs
