I have two basic problems with some of the criticism in this thread of Corica. These can be characterised as Entitlement and Poor Analysis.
Entitlement.
There are three items of silverware on offer every season. In a 12 team competition in which this silverware is distributed on an equitable basis rather than the results of football matches, we, and every other team in the competition, could expect one trophy every four seasons. In the past four seasons (2016-17 to the present) we have won seven trophies and two of this season’s trophies are are still to be determined. To complain because we exhibited insufficient “style” is not valid criticism, it is a manifestation of entitlement.
Poor Analysis
While I agree that there have been stronger teams in the past, to claim that this is a crisis and then blame Steve Corica is simple poor analysis. It is unreasonble to compare the current team to a team that played four seasons ago simply because both teams happened in a different context with different resources to draw on. Also, the influences on one football team participating in the biggest sport on the planet over a time period of years is complex and can rarely be broken down to the influence of just one person. But if it did, that person would not be Steve Corica, it would be Dragan Jevtic, a 37 year old Serbian player agent who gave us M1los, Milo2, Holosko, Vukovic and Ranko Despotovic. Even after his too soon death in 2016, his influence was still felt at the club when Holosko’s old team mate Bobo signed for us.
It could be argued that far from being a bad manager because we have a weaker team, Corica is a good manager because he has achieved similar results as Arnold with access to fewer player resources.
Having said that, I wish we played more of our youth players, I think that next season (injuries permitting) that King, Warland and The Hoff should be starting most games, and Wood should be getting more game time. Also, if you want to see how much better we are now than in the past, according to Ultimate A-League our 2011 player of the season was Ivan Necevsci. Think about that!
If you average the quarterly CPI percentage between the start of the 2016 season and the start of the 2019 season, the CPI change was 0.2%, so 9% is much higher than the CPI for that period.
