I don’t need the xG to tell me Buhagiar is a donkey, my eyes work fine. We’ve been trying to get it to work and it’s not quite doing it.

Buhagiar is a classic over thinker. You can see, he scored most of his goals when he went off instinct. The moment he had time to think, he’d inevitably miss.
I am getting the feeling from everything being said at the club, that they think it was recruitment that was the problem this season.
We have seen that it isn’t recruitment, it’s been the fanatical sticking to a gameplan that isn’t working, no ability to adapt to the match and substitutions that feel like they are planned regardless of the match circumstance.
If they think that they can just recruit their way out of the problems then we will be battling for 6th again next season.
It’s obvious that with the players we have that a much better season could have been achieved with a different approach.
Yeah I’ve noticed this too, he works best if he has no time.
They’re kind of right though, we did recruit wrong for the system we wanted to play.
When Bratten went down it was clear we needed another #6 yet the 2 players identified to replace him were #8’s at best (Mooy & Amini).
Goalscoring was also identified as an issue with Alfie struggling and Bobo only good for cameos yet the player identified to fix this issue made his career as an out and out wide man.
I’ve seen nothing that indicates that the same thing won’t happen again and that is where the issue lies. Corica will try and recruit for his system but what if he doesn’t get those players over the line?
I think the one thing that needs to be a requirement for any contract extension is Corica demonstrating some form of tactical flexibility, a Plan B. If he can’t do this then he can’t be trusted with a rebuild.
So Corica is staying on I guess. The first three games next season better be last chance saloon. I hope he indulges in a modicum of self reflection over the off season.
So basically you want us to be 2017-2022 WSW? Fuck that, no.
Absolutely not, we had our Farina, Crook & Butcher & we’re never going back obviously. However I firmly believe that as individuals we are a very decent team on paper & much better than our table position. I also firmly believe that this is all on Corica’s approach to the game with those individuals that have put us in this mess. There has to be a modicum of accountability, it’s what professional football clubs do. Another whole season of this shitty, stilted tactical approach will see us slide into the shitter further. All I’m saying is that I hope this dullard has been fucking told & told hard that another season of this garbage will not fly. It’s also what professional football clubs do.
This is an unnecessary degree of pressure honestly. With what will be an 80% new team, it will take time to click. Giving someone 3 games is way too little. I get your overall point but I just hope we don’t start booing players/the coach 3 games into the season…
I probably won’t have stopped booing Corica from this season …I actually get the shits with this “give him time to rebuild” gear… he’s been at the helm 4 years , that’s a full rotation of most contracts he’s had under him in that time
Letting him rebuild likely means a trophy-less 22/23 season as well …then he gets dumped…and someone else gets stuck with his shit signings for another year or so…
This is literally our second season without a trophy and we were one win away from one last season. Hardly time for panic stations or thinking the club is a mess. It really is modern football’s trigger happy no trophy= sacked obsession
Seeing clear signals and results declining is hardly panic stations, corica is off contact and I fail to see how last season’s recruitment, results and player management can justify a new contract unless the club is happy with mediocrity.
The question to ask always about a coach is:
Is the whole they create in a team better than the sum of the parts? The answer for this season is clearly ‘yes’ for CCM, Nux, Adelaide and Newcastle (weak squads that did very well, or for Jets, much better than most expected); and for SFC and WSW very clearly ‘no’ (strong squads that did very poorly). (It’s harder to judge MC, MV and WU as they have very good squads that have done very well)
The main acceptable excuses for the ‘no’ are new coach taking on squad mid-season with players they may never have wanted (Rudan’s execuse - but not Bimbi’s); losing best players to other clubs (eg Halloran and Mauk at Adelaide) and and a terrible run of injuries which we had but many other clubs did too (especially Perth).
Bimbi’s stated recipe for ensuring an SFC revival is ‘getting the recruitment right’. Is he saying that we have not done so in the last couple of years? And if that is the case, who is he claiming has been making those decisions? Danny T? The Board? …
I wouldn’t have called our lot a strong squad this year
Not the strongest we have ever had but better than Wellington and CCM and, you could argue, stronger than Adelaide as well.
2 year deal.
He’s got 10 games…
Both he and the club are at least saying the right things. I remain a bit nervous about the rebuild process, but honestly I can’t think of any feasible options I’d have any reason to trust more than Corica.

Right move by the club. Very happy to see us back a manager who’s proven to be up for it rather than doing what’s so endemic in football currently and that’s sacking the manager soon as things turn slightly off. There’s no doubt things to sort out and I hope he both addresses them and also gets proper backing rather than getting sacked 5 or 10 games into the season
If they’re genuine about “big changes” then this is ok I guess. We’ll see.
“Recruitment will be key to our success as we freshen up the squad.
“We’ll need a new striker, a new number ten and I want to strengthen us defensively.
“There’ll be around six to eight new players to bring in, and we will have a number of excellent young players coming into the squad from the Academy, who have performed well in the NPL.
“We’ll also be looking at changes to the playing style to give the boys a new approach to the season and keep them fresh.”
