Seriously hope this s-&t loses the promoter a bunch of $$s of various varieties.
If people actually turn up to that, I hope Cahill’s XI gets booed the whole 90 minutes.
My first instinct was that the referees were so poor that I’m not sure they deserve that much. After some rudimentary math (which is still probably much higher than what they actually get), I realised that being $1m short means they really get paid SFA on average each game.
So hang on….
If I’m reading that right, APL paid 2.5m to FA.
FA paid 1.5m to ref salaries and misused the rest.
Refs now plan to strike and disrupt the a-League, when the APL did nothing wrong?
I get that the only lever refs have to pull here is to strike, but it seems like we’re (league) getting fucked over through no fault of our own.
I have a feeling its the APL that are not paying up. FA ask for $2.5m to use their referees, and I’m guessing the APL have only stumped up $1.5m.
It’s very very weirdly worded. The referees report to the FA and are under their purview, so I assume they would also be getting paid by the FA. They won’t be getting a lump sum prior to the season, so i’m not sure how “the referees” haven’t received their money yet. There’s the PFRA but going by their website, not sure they even exist as they haven’t updated anything for years.
Although going by $1.5m they would get paid approx. $712 a match, assuming 6 officials per game.
I have it on good authority that in the early days of VAR KGJ was pocketing $1.5K per game so you’d have to assume the centre ref was getting more than that.
If they go on strike, then the FA won’t have the opportunity to pocket the missing $1m.
'tis football.
'tis fuckup.
Perth glory barely managed to survive, scraping through the NPL promotion/relegation playoffs by winning 11 nil.
Not suspicious at all?
It’s a bit weird, Dianella seemed like a good side.
I don’t think glory sent down a bunch of aleague players though. 4 of the team had played aleague and glory lost a friendly to Newcastle Jets on the same day in Bunbury.
