Doesn’t seem too different to the old NPL national finals… just 8 of the bitterest have bought their way in the event they don’t earn it?

Yeah, and like the NPL finals, can see this dying a quick and quiet death.
From my limited understanding it is similar in the Netherlands. They just have the 2 divisions but it’s basically impossible to get kicked out of Div 2 unless you have financial difficulties or voluntarily
If it’s not called the B-League why should I care?
I thought the NPL Finals were fine but they just didn’t garner enough interest.
Its lacking magic
NPL finals was shit. For half the teams it’s one and done, and if you were a fan of a participating team you’d be lucky to get a home game.
This is a real competition, you’re guaranteed six fixtures and three home games. Against interesting and diverse teams, with a higher standard than your average NPL fixture. You might even realise it’s happening before it’s over.
And if 3 games can average 2k through the gates it’s worth almost 9 games of your typical 700 NPL crowd.
Half the participating teams are State Federation teams who will have zero support and are literally there because the model is so flawed they couldn’t find 16 viable participants out of 94 NPL teams. 8.5% of NPL teams are participating in a half-assed cup tourney with a group stage filled out by the feds, pissing away funds that would be better spent on something useful, not interstate flights and hotels for teams making up the numbers.
It won’t be back next year.
I’m looking forward to seeing plastics become new bitters & old bitters becoming nouveau plastics.
Three years tops?
You’re a real optimist mate. One and done for me.
I’m going to guess the flights won’t be covered in any way. Its all on the clubs?
I think the FA have been happy to allow those clubs to take the financial risk, honestly.
The amount of money it costs to fly from Perth to the east coast would make me wanna tank the NPL WA if I were running a club.
The top four scorers in the league this season we’re all Australian and 23 or younger. Fantastic to see.
And with the proposed hard cap in place and tiny league distribution I suspect we’ll see the golden boot going to at least an Aussie most years
James Johnson is stepping down as FA CEO. Heather Garriock takes over on an interim basis.
Presumably feels like FA swept her abuse allegations under the rug to protect the Matildas image?
