Sack the Board: the Cricket thread I

I don’t think he will ever be back to his best. I can’t see him suddenly finding a way to not be injured at this age after spending half a decade injured. Pat Cummins did it but he was a mere boy when he started.

Yeah i don’t hold out much hope… hes now 30. The good thing is that he wants to play test cricket again rather than cashing in and playing T20’s around the world.

In a perfect world he would have been tearing up the Australian lineup last night alongside Shamar Joseph in front of his adoring hometown crowd.

Outstanding bowling from Australia, a finely taken win.

Great bowling and happy with the win but the batting hmm

I know our batting lineup isn’t great at the moment but we’re always a chance with one of the truly great bowling attacks.

The pitch isn’t test match quality. They’ve had issues for years now in curation.

Big 3 doing the business again. Going to be awkward in a few years when weve got a new attack with 10 tests between them though.

Be really interesting to see what they do when Smiths back. #3 the vacancy if we’ve dropped Marnus but questions if Greens good enough for that spot now. And Webster’s had such a decent start to his career (44 with the bat 28 with the ball cant really ask for much more) so you cant really put Green back at 6.

Imagine Green gets the series at least but players like Weatherald, Sangha and Patterson cant be that far off (maybe Sangha less so ehs had one great shield season maybe needs to put another one together) or even going back to McSweeney.

Not sure why Khawaja chose to review last night. That was the plumbest of LBWs. Seemed a waste.

Can only assume he thought it hit him outside off given the angle. Games well poised though.

Potentially so is the England game. Bazball is an exercise in self aggrandisement, but to be fair it has made you think all 4 results ™ are still available in that game. Should be a good 4th day.

It’s great how 2 completely different games are interesting in their own ways, test cricket is brilliant for that.

Can’t see England bazballing their way to a 600+ run chase in a day. India batting this one dead.

Congrats to England on a massive moral victory last night by avoiding the draw

Imagine losing to India at home without facing Bumrah.

Couple of big moments coming up soon for the Australian bowlers.

Nathan Lyon is now on 562 test wickets, just one behind the tally brought in by the immortal Glenn McGrath.

He’s surely a lock to snag a couple of poles in Kingston over the weekend and move into 2nd alltime wicket takers for the land down under.

Postman Pat is 4 shy of going past Brett Lee and 7 short of overtaking Mitchell Johnson. If it doesn’t happen in Jamaica he will surely move into 6th alltime when he dons the whites once more in Perth for the first Ashes test.

Mitchell Starc is knocking on the door of 400 scalps, he is five away from reaching that once unthinkable number.

And Josh Hazlewood is eight wickets away from becoming a 300 wicket man.

Mulder declaring whilst he’s on 367* isn’t something you see every day. Surely no harm playing one more hour and giving yourself a chance at 400. Still so much in the game

Just like Matthew Hayden scoring 380 against Zimbabwe, it feels kind of like bullying.

I’m glad the Lara record stands. Sacred number.

Unlike Lara, Mulder seems interested in winning the Test match. Lara batted until day three and it was the first innings of the match.

It’s still day 2 though and he was scoring at quicker than a run a ball

Bat for another half hour or hour and he’d have got there if he didn’t get out.

But you do have a point too- both of Lara’s knocks were in draws. Hayden and Jayawardene came in wins which feels sweeter

Lara’s 400 came in the 4th test of a series where the West Indies were down 3-0. I guess the argument could be that by forcing a draw he ensured there was no chance of a whitewash.

“First things first, I thought we’d got enough and we need to bowl,” Mulder told South African broadcaster SuperSport.

“And secondly Brian Lara is a legend, let’s be real. He got 400 against England and for someone of that stature to keep that record is pretty special.”
