Squad speculation thread 2020/21

With our squad, they’ll be asking to join the A-league, already the best league in the world.

Id imagine Wilko retires, TWB we might hang onto as a cheap backup, Retre should resign, Talbots still young, Zuvela I hope we at least help out through injury again, ABJ probably leaves, Bobo probably leaves too, Buhagier, Caceres, McGowan stay. Swibel and Flottman havent gotten many minutes so depends if we want the squaddies but I could see both moving on.

Yeah it’s interesting, unless there’s a cap raise. ABJ/Bobo leaving to make way for ALF’s wage would make sense

I’d have re-signed Gowser and Caceres yesterday, be having a beer with Wilko and asking him what he wants to do today, then speaking to Paulo and Cam Devlin tomorrow.

hold your horses there… He’s available for the last 4 games of the season… It all depends on how well we play in the leadup to that…

I think if this season has taught us anything it is that Alfie is a necessity. Fit the rest of the cap around him

Oh thank God!

Alf and Bobo together could be very interesting.

The only scary thing is the age of that front line

Very happy to see Alf back. Him & Bobo are so different its going to be interesting to see how they work together

I don’t see them playing too much together, far more likely they share the load next to Kosta.

Yeah I dont think we’ll see much of Ninkovic, ABJ, Bobo ALF on the pitch together. I think its far more likely we see Kosta/Bobo and ALF/Wood combos

Lessens so much of the load Kosta’s been carrying. Kosta’s more or less carried the team with goals and assists this season, idea of him back with Alfie is really really exciting. As others have said, it’s a huge positive players WANT to come back here.

Corica loves Kosta and his work rate, I reckon he continues to play most minutes. He’ll start next to Bobo until ALF settles, with ALF coming off the bench to get minutes. Until he’s good to start, when roles reverse and Bobo becomes our super sub.

Bobo fresh off the bench will still be able to press somewhat (better than us sitting off last weekend, anyways) and with ALF quaffing sausage rolls we’ll be 2 or 3 in front before he even comes on.

All that’s left is for the lad to pick up some duty free industrial trophy polish on his way in this evening.

I think that ALF becomes marquee and we need to cover Ninković in the cap.

When we re-signed Ninko against Macarthur’s offer he seemed more interested in securing the extra year than the money, so hopefully the deal was front-loaded such that the 2021-22 salary reflects that he turns 37 during the season. We get a 35% loyalty exemption for his 7th season with the club, so hopefully it’s more like $300k of cap space that we need to find.

Quite plausibly that’s already covered with the budget we set aside to (unsuccessfully) replace ALF during the off-season, before giving (some of?) it to Bobô and now a month of ALF.

I do like how the socials presented this.

It’s no Marvin, but thinking outside the box is good.

Is there still a salary cap? Taking the piss now. Dont mind it at all.

Lots of variables as well out there that may have contributed. Some more clarity over the next tv deal compared to the start of Covid. The length of the contract also starts putting Alf in residency timeframes for Permanent Residence. Maybe he’s accepted slight unders for his skill level for a longer contract that may help cement his future long term in a city he obviously loves.

Do you get a sore back with balls that big?
