The Asian Football Thread

Indian clubs kind of hurt in the East-West divide.

Can’t imagine many of the teams on SFCs side of the conference being willing to travel to Iran at this moment either.

To be fair, Iran would probably ban Australian teams from travelling to Iran on account we openly support Israel.

Any A-League player that had played in Israel would be banned from travelling there too IIRC.

It really is amazing from the AFC… sanctioning a team for not travelling to a country that’s actively involved in bombing another country, while being told they’re going to be wiped off the map by said country. I mean are they actually being serious?

I mean it’s the AFC, they’re going to be pro-Iran.

Short of Tehran being bombed directly, they probably will issue this ultimatum to any team/nation.

Perhaps they could have arranged for it to be played in a neutral country like Qatar.

It’s strange they didn’t push for a postponement or neutral country.

Certainly the Beirut based team who played against CCM in the final played most of its games outside Lebanon, and that was without the issues going on today.

Assuming the situation changed so rapidly that they couldn’t apply for it fast enough. The AFC aren’t exactly known for their speed or flexibility. You also need to take into account the fact that the seafood buffet would have already been purchased for AFC officials. Most people don’t realise that there’s a law stating:

“In the event that the seafood buffet has been purchased by the host team, games will not be rescheduled to ensure prompt partaking of said seafood buffet”

Wet night in Malaysia for Johor v Buriram but big home support.
Johor loses a player at the 10 for a Dogso just outside box.

Two more red cards and no-goals for a 0-0 draw.

Guangzhou (Evergrande) look to be officially dead today.

All downhill for them after M1los and Stambolziev ended them

Interesting looking at what is pretty much the final table of the 12 Eastern sides of the ACL Champions League Elite.

J.League teams 1st, 2nd, 3rd
K League teams 5th, 9th, 11th
Chinese Super League teams 7th, 8th, 10th

Johor Darul Ta’zim and Buriram United 4th and 6th. Malaysia, Thailand making strides in competitiveness, CSL declining for well known reasons, but surprised to see such a regression in results and quality from K League.

Should be a good match tonight if you are keen for a midweek football fix. Vissel Kobe v Gwangju in AFC Champs League round of 16. 9pm on Paramount

The one K League team that didn’t look awful in the ACLE League stage.

That the side that just pocketed a fee from us?

Our old foes Shanghai Shenhua playing tonight vs Kawasaki Frontale.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima at home to Lion City Sailors in ACL2 action as well.

Fuck Shenhua.

And Dunbar. Definitely fuck Dunbar.

Early goal (and a very tidy one) for Sanfrecce against Lion City Sailors.

Even better finish gives LCS a surprise equaliser!

Didn’t last long… 6-1 at the finish.
So pretty clear who we will be playing if we win through against the Koreans.

Valere Germain on the scoresheet for Sanfrecce, how the fuck did they get him registered in this comp when he moved there 5 minutes ago, outside a window?

Different Germain. The goalscorer was Ryo Germain.
