The Ćevapi files: Sydney FC in the NPL1

It will be interesting to see what our line-up will look like today with a couple of regulars away with the Young Socceroos.

Max Vartuli is away so there will be a change at GK from last week. Gus Hoefsloot could start after playing 30 minutes against Newcastle during the week otherwise Alex Zaverdinos will come back in after being dropped to the bench, somewhat unfairly, the last couple of weeks.

Tyelr Williams is out at CB. I’d say that Jared Middleton will come in beside Joe Calusic although the other option is to move Will Kennedy there but that means we need to find a LB.

B;lake Bolwell has made the RB position his own so no Zac De Jesus isn’t an issue.

Marin France will come in for Tiago Quintal.

Nathan Amanatidis could come in for Pearson Kasawaya to boost his fitness after the long injury layoff although there’s plenty of options upfront.

The teamsheet on YouTube looks really wrong.
Gurd and Glasson starting according to Dribl.

Just tubed in. Are we in the white?

Shoulda/Coulda gone to this given I was in the Shire earlier today house hunting.

Makes sense. A few weeks into training right? We need to give the more peripheral ALM kids as much game time as possible given that they’ll train for 8 months for negligible game time when the season proper starts

Just got home so haven’t seen the line up.

Glasson starting makes sense. In for Kasawaya?

Gurd was reported on the Football NSW site as re-joining the NPL side some weeks ago. Given he hasn’t appeared and does not appear in the squad on Transfermarkt I assumed this was a mistake.
He’s 23 though and played bugger all A League games so he is still eligible. Handy with Williams away for the next couple of games.

One of us! One of us!

Fuck, should have buried that

Looked like a penalty.
Had a quick look on replay and definitely looks like he was taken down. We got away with one there.

Boo

So literally the only game I’ve watched this season, and its a 0-0 draw.

Eh, NPL2 here we come.

Cagey stuff, both sides willing but not a lot of quality on show. Thought we shaded it, can’t recall Solsky making a save aside from that cross-shot that was fading in and which he did well to tip over, and there was the late penno shout for them. Our best chances all top of the box, nothing clear cut either, Glasson went close a few times but that one from Kamijo… looked in the whole way until it swung an inch past the post.

Here’s hoping for a Hills Utd loss.

Hills leading 1-0!

FFS! 2-0 to Hills

Was 4-0, Spirit just pulled one back.

Edit: ended 4-1.

5 rounds to go still. Anything is possible, it could take only 1 win out of the remaining games to get out of relegation. If the others don’t get points.

Mariners just nabbed a point against Blacktown (who had Travis Major at CB, WTF?), so we remain bottom on GD for another week.

How many teams get relegated? Is it the bottom 1 or 2 clubs from the club championship??

We’ve got a solid lead over Sutherland, but it’s disappointing to see us at the bottom of the npl1 with the talent we’re supposed to have.

Club championship is finished as far as promotion and relegation is concerned.

16th place is automatically relegated and 15th place has a two-leg pro/rel playoff against NPL2 second placed team.

Well then we need to push all eligible youngsters into the NPL side so we can stay in the NPL1.

What is the point of club championship though, just a pissing contest with no actual purpose other than aggregating the top two divisions onto one table
