The Death Thread - The Grim Reader

Damn, weā€™ve known that was probably coming for a while now but that one hurts.

Taking the battle to Sean Connery in the afterlife.

One of my favourite history writers, the works of whom remain as treasures of my life today even so many years after I was first introduced to them.

Maradona has died.

Fuck you 2020. I hope there is no more kick in the guts this year - Eddie, Sean and Diego a few months apart.

I guess Robbie Slater will be busy today.

Vale Diego

Ah fuck.
This is the celeb death that has hit me the most.

All the reports I saw the other day said his operation was a success. Never believe what you read in the papers I guess.

What a player though

Absolutely agonising. Massive impact on so many clubs. Doco on him in Mexico and the recent movie are must watches. If it turns into a ā€œhe didnt mind a few linesā€ legacy Iā€™ll be furious. I believe heā€™s the greatest of all time possibly influenced by the fact that he played within my lifetime though. Gutted.

Maybe not the right place, butā€¦ you think heā€™s better than Ronaldo/Messi?

Well he won a World Cup which those lads havenā€™t. He was also a much bigger character. Different times though

Itā€™s an interesting discussion. Iā€™ll leave it for now, as I donā€™t think this thread is appropriate for it.

Damn, thatā€™s a real loss.

Not sure whether he was better than Messi, as itā€™s hard to compare with the psychopathic defenders and lenient refereeing at the time.
But heā€™s a whole lot more human and interesting.

Garincha is still the best.

For me, winning a world cup shouldnā€™t be the benchmark. World Cup is as much about the team as it is about the single player. Especially in this day and age. Back in the earlier days, teams could be carried more easily, but now, with different systems, itā€™s harder or a single player to carry a team for an entire tournament.

That was actually a pretty shit Argentina team in 1986.

They basically won it because of Maradonna.
