The travelling circus: stadia discussion

I went past the new cowboys stadium yesterday, what a ground that will be. About 800m from the centre of town/train. Add another 10k and it would be perfect.

Found this, I haven’t fully read it but it looks interesting on a quick scan.

Any link to the Cowboy’s stadium?

For all the Leichardt Oval fans on here, lovely piece from the Grauniad:

Maybe a slight disconnect to current discussion, but for those who go to Leichhardt Oval, what’s the easiest way to get there by public transport? I’d be coming from the Blue Mountains.

Train to Central then light rail I guess. There might a bus from further west which could save you some time but others would be more familiar with that option than me.

Other option is train to Lewisham (you’d have to change at Strathfield), then walk to the Lewisham West light rail stop going back the other way. It’s a shitfight basically, pretty sure it took me about as long to get to the FFA Cup game against City and back home as it did the year before when we played in fucking Wollongong.

The problem with that is I’m betting the light rail will be mostly full the moment it leaves Dulwich Hill from all the people on the T3 line (assuming we get close to 10k). I’d think getting an express train to Central and then the light rail back out would be safer.

Thanks. I’m guessing Central, then the light rail option would be best.

Probably quicker and easier to get a bus from central. The light rail has a lot of stops. Just punched in Wollongong to Leichhardt oval into Google maps and it proposes getting the 440 from central.

slightly off topic - but at least 1 of our home derbies next season has to be at jubilee. would be great. would give the fixture a bit of buzz and excitement again i reckon.

the light rail can be absolutely chockers for that first section (people going to the casino etc)

bus from central for me

What’s it like from Dulwich Hill to Leichardt/Lilyfield?

In the evening it would be pretty empty, although the trip home from the game won’t be so.

Easiest way to Leichhardt Oval by rail is definitely via Light Rail. Get off at Leichhardt North.

By bus the 440, 445 and L37 routes go closeby to the ground.

I cannae wait for the Leichardt games… anyone in the inner west its an easy ride on the LR from Dulwich Hill

So the Saturday March 16th game against Melbourne City at the SCG has been moved a day to give us more time related to ACL.

Now Sunday 17th at BROOKVALE OVAL.

Here’s the key part of the member’s email

I’m writing to let you know of a change to one of our home fixtures in March. As you will be aware, we are competing in the AFC Champions League for the third time in four seasons and the draw often throws up challenges with the Hyundai A-League fixturing.
This year our boys will travel to Japan to face Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday 13th March and will fly back the next day, arriving in Sydney on Friday morning. In order to give our players the best chance to recover for our game against Melbourne City that weekend, we have been given permission by the FFA to move the game from Saturday 16th to Sunday 17th March.

Given the change in date and kick off time, we have decided to use this opportunity to further engage our community in another important area of our club’s fanbase.

We have learned from the success of our games at Jubilee Stadium and our early indications for our matches at Leichhardt Oval. We have listened and taken feedback from our Members on their views of our displacement so far and what they want, and will continue to do so. We would also like to continue to be flexible and learn from our experiences to provide the best match days we can during this displacement process. They are some of the reasons why we have made the decision to take this game to Brookvale Oval on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

It will be the first Hyundai A-League match to be played at the historic ground and we feel it will reward our loyal Members from Sydney’s north who total over 20% of our club’s Membership base.

I think we will be able to provide another fantastic match day event at Brookvale Oval and I am excited at the prospect of seeing another part of Sydney packed with Sky Blue.

I can’t wait for this one. I’ll be able to walk to the game! I go to every home game, so it’s a nice little reward. I think it’s a great decision.

By the way, I didn’t vote for Brookvale Oval in the member’s survey about which stadiums we should play in while displaced because week-in, week-out I didn’t think it would make sense for fans outside of the Northern Beaches to have to travel there. I did comment though that a single game, even just a pre-season friendly at Brookvale would be good. Stoked.
