The weather thread: smalltalk edition

It’s raining. A little bit of flash flooding around the Inner West. Stay tuned for further fascinating updates.

Thunder so loud two people in front of me ran against the wall in fright. Hope none of you are week in the downstairs area.

Cell passed overhead at work. Nothing major, just a few big grumbles of thunder. Bit of a downpour. 10 minutes later bright sunshine.

Looking at the BOM radar (come at me, meteorological department) There’s isolated storm cells floating all over the Sydney basin. So there’s gonna be some pretty heavy showers over the next 24 hours or so.

The biggest cell seems to moving offshore, but that’s not to say more won’t form in the south nepean basin.

That storm just hit the coast and set off one of the biggest thunderclaps I’ve ever felt.

I had a layer of ice on my windscreen at 7am this morning. Never had that before even when I was getting up for work at 4am 20 years ago.
Apparently tonight is going to be even colder .

Must say that these mid 20’s days are absolutely beautiful though.

I had my first layer of ice this winter on the windshield this morning. Last year I had a fair few. Altough didn’t seem as cold this morning as it was yesterday.

When I used to get up at 3am when I worked at the airport, you’d crack out those hose and hose down your car, put the hose away and by the time you get back to the car, there’d be fresh ice freezing on the windshield.

Riding into work is absolute murder. It’s like carrying that windchill factor around with you. Showering afterwards the hands just tingle with even warm water on them.

On a pushy? Savage. I went for a ride the other day at 5:30am and I nearly turned around because of how cold it was. I need to invest in some gloves.

It’s been a good 10 weeks since it rained. 30-32, 60% humidity and winds @10kts every day.

Life’s tough.

Yeah, a pushy. I have some fingerless gloves, but need to get something more protective I reckon. Man I hate riding in winter.

I have a family friend who posted a photo of their motorbike at 4.30am, the seat covered in ice and a long spiel about how horrible it was riding to work despite layers of protective gear.

I just replied to her comment with a selfie of me in my toasty warm car, and a hot cup of coffee in the cup holder.

I’m not a prick at all.

Accurate.

I’m in the car for 5 minutes defrosting the windscreen before I leave. Standard. Apparent temps at -11c this morning.

They need to kit up properly. I find well kitted motorcycling to be fine in this shit weather. Thermals, T-shirt, wind proof mid layer and a proper three layer motorcycle suit with hand guards and heated grips. Sweet as.

That’s because you live in a cold arse part of the country at this time of year!

At least I can wear a t-shirt and shorts every day.

I wore a t-shirt today, sure I had a thermal top underneath it …

I loved how every winter in Canberra there’s the news stories about people having their cars stolen while the idiots warmed them up and waited inside their house.

Great weather for training though. First time I’ve felt warm in days.

The heat wave in the Northern Hemisphere is absolutely crazy at the moment. Temps hitting above 50C in China and the US. Italy looking to hit the mid 40s before a bit of respite.

Apparently the seven hottest days in the past 100,000+ years all happened last week.
