We all like fried chicken - the MLS thread

That’s ridiculous. And I bet the seats at the stadiums don’t have cup holders either.

Haha they would have to have cup holders, and free lap dances from the Panthers cheerleaders to get me to pay those prices lol

Seattle Sounders beat Pumas UNAM to win a first ever CONCACAF Champions League for an MLS team.

Only DC United & LA Galaxy had previously won the predecessor Champions Cup once each (1998 & 2000 respectively), it’s been dominated by Mexican sides since the rebrand.

Also doing a Canadian PL game!
Atlético Ottawa vs. HFX (Halifax) Wanderers.

It’d be a pretty big time for Canadian “soccer”, with their women Olympic gold medalists, their men qualifying top to go through to the World Cup and also co-hosting 2026. Keen to see our Tildas playing the Canadians at the SFS in September.

BBC are reporting that Bale has signed for LAFC. I’m guessing there would be some great golf courses in the area

Back from the TFC vs. Portland Timbers game.
Really fun atmosphere. 20598 crowd. Packed BMO. Saw one lady in a Timbers scarf. Basically 20K Torontonians(?). Good game. 2 late goals for TO to win 3-1. One thing though, the system of 4 different capo stands with the capos trying to coordinate chants from bays apart drove me a bit batshit. But I was already 90% batshit already, so no big deal. 🤷🏽

If that drove you batshit wait until you cop goalie wars!

Canadian Premier League time!
This counts as a National Second Division, right? Granted, Canada’s and the US’s are separate.

I guess it’s actually a first division, like NZ’s.

Hooooooly shit, the Atleti Ottawa game was SO MUCH FUN! HFX got a late pen and made it 2-all only for Ottawa to score the winner right after that. Really impressed with Canadian “soccer”. Both on the pitch and in the stand.

Women’s Olympic gold, men topping their confederation for the 22 WC and co-hosting 2026. :canada:

Austin marketing department at it again. I’d give my left nut for an SFC version:

Los Verdes solid AF second season came to an end this morning. MLS Cup is (I believe) early Sunday morning our time between LAFC (boo!) and Philadelphia Union.

Both teams finished on the same points in their respective conferences, the Union actually had a superior goal difference but LAFC were awarded the supporters shield on account of having more wins (Union had fewer defeats and more draws) and thus get to host.

So, best 2 teams all season have made it to the big dance, should be a cracking game. Go Philly.

This final has been bonkers

Philly miss 4 pens in a row to lose 3-0

Just an average day in the MLS that.

Some feral lookin’ MoFo’s among the LA support…

Just watched a replay of the match. Fucking hell what a final. MLS continues to be one of the most entertaining leagues out there.

There are serious parallels to us (being further down the national sporting landscape than any league in Europe) and I’m sure there are lessons to be learned from them, but they’ve got enough money / population etc to have more quality in addition to the batshit absurdity. It’s brilliant and exactly what I wish the A-Liga becomes.

Yeah the parallels with our league are a big reason why I follow it. I’ve usually thought we’re 10 year behind them (although keeping in mind it’s proportional given our population and amount of large cities), but given the stagnation / regression even over the last 5 or so seasons it feels like we’re even further behind now.

I still like to think that this kind of future with its expansion and popularity and movement up the local sporting pecking order (i believe it’s much bigger than the nhl now in most metrics) is something that’s achievable here in the medium term if we get things rights.
