Where are they now?

Ronny might learn a thing or two from the goat.

Surely some of the Polish names are made up?

Blaszczykowski and Piszczek played for Dortmund under Klopp and played a pretty decent part in the teams. Although, we do like our consonants…

I found out I can actually communicate in Polish.

I just let my cat walk across the keyboard.

Arnie’s Iraq got a 1-0 win over already qualified Jordan last night. Follows on from a 2-0 loss to South Korea the game before.

The legend himself

Had a similar role at SD Raiders and by all reports, did a good job there, I know that Raiders actually had a few youth players move into WSW and SFC academies - top bloke too I have been told

20 years ago, we competed in the club world cup. For those who don’t remember, our freshly fledged club had recently been founded, and probably set a record for the youngest/newst club to win a continental title (Yes, it was Oceania, no I do not care). It would be the last time an Australian side would play in an Oceania tournament.

We would become the second ever club to represent 'ol Down Under in this tournament (I think…) after South Melbourne did so in 2001? Anyway, nobody except a bunch of now-boomer Greek blokes care about that (and they bring it up at every and any opportunity)

Western Suburbs have also represented the A-League in the CWC, but like Bruno, we dont talk about it.

We played Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica and lost 1-0. We would then go on to play arguably (to this day) the biggest club in Africa, Egyptian side Al Ahly, in the 5th place playoff (yes, it was only 6 teams, no I do not care) where we would triumph 2-1.

Here are some club socials snaps of that glorious moment in our early fledgling history

From memory,we were better than Saprissa on the day and got hit against the run of play. We would have played Liverpool in the semi.

However, we were also outplayed by Al Ahly and managed to hit against the run of play.

Sydney FC… We are the worlds 5th best football team.

20 or so years a go my ex used to walk Carle’s dog around the Cecil Hills area. They used to come in to the Video Ezy she worked at.

So, makes sense that he still hangs around in the area, given Marconi is only a few minutes away.

Well like Brosquey, he grew up in that part of Sydney I think, so it’s not unreasonable that he has family and friends out that way.

I think Brosquey actually still lives out that way. I remember a few interviews with him during and post career where he was discussing the derby and says it can be a bit of a family debarcle because he lives in Western Sydney.

Having said that, whilst nowhere in Sydney is cheap, there’s some nice suburbs that border the eastern side of the M7. Cecil hills isn’t terrible.

Cecil Hills at the time was Legoland with 2 story box brick or rendered houses all built around a damn or a creek, with a walking track around it and grassy areas.

Our band at the time played a gig in a garage of one of those homes and backyard. Besides the gig it self and peoples reactions, my best memory was that we took a whole massive bowl of those red Frankfurt minis/halves to the backyard afterwards and ate the whole bowl leaning against the back fence in the massive back yard these blocks had. Cecil Hills would be an ok suburb to have to move in to, depending on the rest of your life activity. (at the time)

Damn, i want some now…

Miura, whose long club career has also included spells in Italy, Croatia, Australia and Portugal, still has a way to go to match Egyptian Ezzeldin Bahader’s record of turning out for a professional team at the age of 74.
