Hasn’t been any discussion on this yet, anyone else completing it? In the same members email with POTS vote there is a link to a multiple choice survey, with your selections due by this Wednesday 14th. It’s framed as an update to the same exercise from 10 years ago, adding players from the last decade to those selected in our team of the first decade. I’ve gone for:
Coach - Arnie, Corica can be his assistant, with apologies to Larry and astonishment Talay is even an option.
Keeper - Redders just (for longevity) over Vuka’s one brilliant season.
Defenders - proper back four of Wilko, Jordy, Rhyno and Zullo. Honourable mentions to Sebba, Gowser and Colosimo.
Midfield - Ninko, Adrian, Cac and Branners.
Forwards - ALF (imo the most complete #9 we’ve had) and Brosquey (also capitano).
Guess that’s Arnie’s champagne 4-2-2-2 with our two best 10’s and Cac getting the nod at 6/8 because that side would hold the ball all day long and Branners would provide enough mongrel on his own. Seems ridiculous to have excluded some of the wingers, ADP & Bobo though.
GK: Andrew Redmayne
DF: Alex Wilkinson
DF: Rhyan Grant
DF: Simon Colosimo
DF: Ryan McGowan
MF: Terry McFlynn
MF: Brandon O’Neill
MF: Filip Holosko
MF: David Carney
F: Bobo
F: Alex Brosque
Coach: Graham Arnold, captain: Alex Brosque
No Byun as an option for defender is a crime. Played every minute of every game in a double winning season. That’s more than Ben Warland or fuckin James Donachie ever did.
A-League Women:
GK: Jada Whyman
DF: Nat Tobin
DF: Elzabeth Ralston
DF: Alanna Kennedy
DF: Ally Green
MF: Teresa Polias
MF: Mackenzie Hawkesby
MF: Cortnee Vine
MF: Caitlin Foord
F: Leena Khamis
F: Kyah Simon
I think these are a side effect of the method. Neither Byun or Litti made the initial team of the decade (Lavicka was coach), so they’re no longer available as options to either continue or be replaced now.
If you just pop over to sfcstatistics.com, list by minutes played in all competitions, and then pick the players with the most minutes in each position you get a pretty reasonable XI:
Redmayne / Grant, Ryall, Wilkinson, King / Cáceres, McFlynn, O’Neill, Ninković / Brosque, Le Fondre
Voting for this closed last night so I did mine in a bit of a rush.
For very different reasons I found it tough to choose a second striker and a second centre half (Rhyno could do a job there I guess )
Would love to get my hands on the raw voting data but mostly I am very curious to see if Ninkovic gets in. Based on this thread alone it looks like he will…
