Nah. There was very little cohesion with or without her other than sporadic moments.

You can also spin it around and say that we have finally sort of gotten over the absolute necessity of having Kerr out there for every single minute of a Matildas game. We learned to win games without her, and that has to be a plus for the future if she should ever go down with injury again.
Yeah but that positive is still offset by immediately returning to the “hoof it to Kerr-hill” mode as soon as she’s on the park.

They ended up letting Matildas Active Support keep the drum and the girl continued to complain about the noise, but we had to sit, and we did, even (especially) during the 
wave. To be honest, I don’t completely blame the casual Brisbane crowd. FIFA did pretty poorly of allocating seats. They promised a section to MAS, yet didn’t create a buffer, so all the non-actives either had to be stuck behind the standing people, or bitch at us like we were being purposely inconsiderate. On the plus side, at least I got to sit downstairs and resold my more expensive original ticket.
The depressing part of seeing the WC crowd complain about MAS is that MAS is there at every “small” friendly. They’ve helped build the culture and now people complain about them when we’re hosting a WC. I can imagine rugby league and AFL fans running home and complaining about the rude standing people with flags and drums. Perhaps a packed stadium relies on the pure numbers rather than an active section leading chants, but MAS has been very valuable at every boutique game I’ve been to.

We have reached equality when the Matilda Actives ran into the same issues as the Socceroos’ Actives.
