Job done. Good win while some key guys get a valuable night off. These kids can play.

A great showing from the kids. Big props to Talay too for putting them out there and trusting them to bring it home.
Kamijo, Alfaro, & Middleton all pushing to get into the midfield in the coming seasons with Hollman already there too.
Quintal & France showing flashes. Amanatidis & De Jesus still looking undercooked but put in good shifts tonight.
Williams not looking out of his depth coming in either.
Given that team also contained Sega, Kucharski, Wood, Gurd, Matthews, & King… wow what a win for the acadamy/youth setup. Amazing.
Hiroshima also beat Eastern 4-1, so final Group E standings
For Club coefficient watchers, it would be really good if Cebu can hold off Selangor (Malaysian) or Muanthong beats Jeonbuk… both unlikely in games starting 9pm AEST.
All the foreign lads were still in the house which was good to see, along with Cac and JCP.
Cebu are getting tonked but we still have a chance in the other match
Didn’t see a second of the game. Looking at the commentary here though…
Kamijo is good…
Quintal is good…
France is good…
So happy Tyler Williams got a run out as well.
Who could have known?
Anyone know when the knockout draw will happen?
The draw for the knockout stage will be held on 12 December 2024.
Possible opponents are Jeonbuk (Korea), Bangkok United (Thailand) and Port (Thailand) (or Lion City (Sing) if they get an upset win in a few hours))
And Thai based Muanthong beat Jeonbuk 1-0 in Group H to stop Selangor progressing (with the bonus coefficient points.)
I assume Jeonbuk played a relatively junior team as they are in the middle of a relegation battle from K1 (up 2-1 after the away fixtures with home on 8-Dec)
I dunno.
I think the hype around Quintal made me expect more.
I just didn’t rate him today and felt he wasted a good chance to impress
He’s a baller but definitely not his best outing today. My points went to JK, Sega and Alfaro who was tidy off the bench.
Lion City beat Port 5-2 to finish top of Group F.
So SFCs potential opponents (believe we can’t draw Hiroshima)
Jeonbuk (Korea) - finished 10/12 in 2024 KL1 and in relegation battle. In off-season until 1 March.
Bangkok United (Thailand) - currently top of 24/25 TL1 but games ahead of Buriam United
Lion City (Singapore) - currently 2nd in 24/24 SPL with 3 games in hand
And date wise.
Draw - 12 Dec 2024
Round of 16 - 11–13 Feb 2025 & 18–20 Feb 2025
Quarter-finals - 4–6 Mar 2025 & 11–13 Mar 2025
Semi-finals - 8–9 April 2025 & 15–16 Apr 2025
Final - 17 May 2025
Final is a single game to be hosted by Eastern Conference.
Quintal was trying very hard to impress and was trying the 1% pass too often.
Agree, kinda like the inverse of Burgess, technical skills but needs to learn to make the right pass rather than the low percentage one (or hold up play waiting for the right pass to appear)
Would be nice to get the Singapore team although I believe they play on a synthetic pitch
Watching the replay, I don’t think enough credit is being given to Pat Wood for the first goal. Bends the run to perfection, then right on target from the edge of the box. Like Klimala, you only need one or two of those a game to make up for all the other off-sides.
That’s a fair point. We should credit him when he does time it just right. Plenty of examples of good poachers who racked up a heap of offsides a game but still scored regularly. It is something Wood really needs to improve on, so hopefully we can see this improvement a bit more often.
That’s not usually Wood’s style of play though is he? Klimala is obviously a striker that looks for the break, whereas Wood has generally tried to either beat his player, or sits a bit deeper.
From NPL days, I thought he was absolutely an off the shoulder striker. Similar style to Klimala.
Agree Quintal looked to be trying too hard.
Kamijo and JK did very well. Sega I almost felt was there to try and develop his game. I think its a good thing if, for example he wanted to get to where Anas is.
Great to see youth products share the armband.
