Lion City are top of the S League with a really strong record of 18-4-2 and they are into the semi finals of the Singapore Cup. So it’s going to be about the best that Singapore has to offer. In fact their only recent loss was the Sanfrecce game.
Young Lions is a developmental club, a U23 squad so they often get rolled like this. Wouldn’t stress too much about that result in the scheme of things.
To be honest, their foreign contingent looks pretty impressive (excluding Wright). A german striker who played 100+ games for St Pauli and scored a decent amount of goals in the top 2 Dutch divisions, a Dutch attacker who has played for 60+ time for PSV and 90+ for Utrecht and a Belgium attacker who has played 200+ games for Brugge and Standard Liege…
They’re by far the best outfit in Singapore but their lack of competition at home does make it hard for them to gauge how to play opposition outside of their league.
Their last couple of losses have been to foreign teams - Persib (Indonesia) and Zhejiang (China) in their ACL 2 group, Hiroshima in their knock out game who they looked VERY out of depth against and to Kaya FC (Philippines) in a regional cup competition during February.
What does that mean for us? We have to understand that we should respect them for what they’ve done but also take the initiative to hurt them. Their local form is imperious but we have to take advantage of the jump in quality we represent against them.
They also train on the synthetic behind the building as well as far as I know.
Put it this way, given they’re playing on a synthetic tomorrow night, they fucking better have been practicing on the one they have even if they don’t use it every day.
It would be great if they did. The time I went there and both sides were full (and the King George Stand was still there behind the goal, also full) the atmosphere was excellent.
