(Iā€™m going full SFC this season, it just feels like itā€™s our time, given we have splashed a bit more than others in this time of lower finance help from the APL)

A lot of people predicting Macarthur will go back to back in the Australia cupā€¦

You have until 7:30pm today to post your ALM predictions to this thread. Prove once and for all that you know more about the best league in the world than our next overlord, ChatGPT.

ChatGPT obviously hates Olympic.

Going off Higdawgs post, Iā€™d say they trained that thing on my previous predictions.

Random predictions for this season:

  • With our saucy attack and very green and thin defense, SFC games will be very high scoring and end to end, and draw in a new audience from fans of basketball
  • Kiwi death battle for last finals spot
  • League crowds will be up 10%+ YoY
  • On a more positive note, P+ will astound all by managing to get highlights up less than an hour after a match (but this will be a one off)
  • That stupid first ever game on P+ (City vs Brisbane was it?) will continue to be watched by poor unsuspecting bastards just trying to get to the current ALM live game
  • NSW Tourism figures for Unite round will reveal that a total of 38 interstate visitors came to NSW for the event
  • Clovisā€™s ABC Sports website survey will discover that articles about the ALM on the pitch will be outnumbered by those about bad fan behaviour (which will get 6 articles this season)
  • The SFS pitch get relaid a couple of times just in time for sundry concers or RU matches and will look pristine for the 2 days following. For every other day this season, it will look like a recreation of the Somme

And its still a million times better than Gemini

  • Melbourne City will break their own record for the most goals scored in a single A-League season.
  • A new team will qualify for the AFC Champions League.
  • The A-League will introduce a salary cap for the first time.
  • The attendance record for an A-League match will be broken.

Please note that these predictions are based on my analysis of the current state of the A-League and are not guaranteed to be accurate.

Here is my reasoning for these predictions:

  • Melbourne City: City have been the dominant team in the A-League for the past few seasons and are expected to be strong contenders again this year. They have a talented squad and a proven coach in Patrick Kisnorbo.
  • Sydney FC: Sydney have been rebuilding their squad over the past few seasons and are starting to show signs of improvement. They have some exciting young players and a experienced coach in Steve Corica.
  • Central Coast Mariners: The Mariners have been a surprise package in recent seasons and are expected to be competitive again this year. They have a good mix of youth and experience and a talented coach in Nick Montgomery.
  • Western United: United are a relatively new team but have shown that they are capable of competing with the best in the A-League. They have a strong squad and a promising coach in John Aloisi.
  • Brisbane Roar: Roar have been inconsistent in recent seasons but have shown that they can be a force to be reckoned with when they are playing well. They have a talented squad and a experienced coach in Warren Moon.
  • Macarthur FC: Macarthur are a new team but have shown that they are capable of competing in the A-League. They have a strong squad and a promising coach in Mark Rudan.
  • Adelaide United: United have been rebuilding their squad over the past few seasons and are starting to show signs of improvement. They have some exciting young players and a experienced coach in Marco Kurz.
  • Wellington Phoenix: Phoenix have been a consistent team in recent seasons and are expected to be competitive again this year. They have a talented squad and a experienced coach in Ufuk Talay.
  • Newcastle Jets: Jets have been struggling in recent seasons but have shown that they are capable of competing in the A-League. They have a strong squad and a promising coach in Arthur Papas.
  • Perth Glory: Glory have been inconsistent in recent seasons but have shown that they can be a force to be reckoned with when they are playing well. They have a talented squad and a experienced coach in Ruben Zadkovich.
  • Melbourne Victory: Victory have been struggling in recent seasons and are expected to be a bottom-half team this year. They have a weak squad and an inexperienced coach in Tony Popovic.
  • Yamaguchi FC: Yamaguchi are a new team and are expected to struggle in their first season in the A-League. They have a weak squad and an inexperienced coach in Hiroaki Morishima.
  • Brisbane Strikers: Strikers are a new team and are expected to struggle in their first season in the A-League. They have a weak squad and an inexperienced coach in Andrew Marth.

Individual awards:

  • Player of the season: Jamie Maclaren (Melbourne City) is the obvious choice for this award. He is the leagueā€™s leading goalscorer and has been in excellent form for the past few seasons.
  • Player of the grand final: Jamie Maclaren (Melbourne City) is also likely to win this award, as he is expected to be the key player for City in the grand final.
  • Golden boot: Jamie Maclaren (Melbourne City) is the clear favorite to win the golden boot, as he is the leagueā€™s leading goalscorer.
  • Best new signing: Alen Stajic (Sydney FC) has been a revelation since joining Sydney from Perth Glory. He is a talented young player who has the potential to be a star in the A-League.
  • Best young player (U23): Garang Kuol (Adelaide United) is a highly rated young player who has been making waves in the A-League. He is a talented attacker who has the potential to be a star for Australia.
  • Biggest flop signing: Bruno Fornaroli (Macarthur FC) has been a disappointment since joining Macarthur from Melbourne City. He has struggled to find his form and has been linked with a move away from the club.
  • SFC player of the season: Alen Stajic (Sydney FC) has been the standout player for Sydney this season. He is a talented young player who has the potential to be a star in the A-League.
  • SFC golden boot: Adam Le Fondre (Sydney FC) is the leading goalscorer for Sydney this season. He is a experienced striker who has the ability to score goals at the highest level.
  • First coach sacked: Mark Rudan (Macarthur FC) is under pressure to keep his job after a disappointing start to the season. Macarthur are currently in the bottom half of the table and have been struggling to score goals.

Random predictions:

  • Sydney FC will win the Premiership for the first time since 2017: Sydney have been rebuilding their squad over the past few seasons and are starting to show signs of improvement. They have some exciting young players and a experienced coach in Steve Corica.
  • Melbourne City will break their own record for the most goals scored in a single A-League season: City have a talented squad and a proven coach in Patrick Kisnorbo. They are capable of scoring goals at will and could break their own record for the most goals scored in a single season.
  • A new team will qualify for the AFC Champions League: The A-League has four teams that qualify for the AFC Champions League each season. It is possible that a new team will qualify for the competition this year, as there are several teams that are capable of challenging for a top-four finish.
  • The A-League will introduce a salary cap for the first time: There have been calls for the A-League to introduce a salary cap in order to level the playing field between the bigger and smaller clubs. It is possible that the league will introduce a salary cap this season.
  • The attendance record for an A-League match will be broken: The A-League has seen a steady increase in attendance in recent years. It is possible that the attendance record for an A-League match will be broken this season, especially if there is a big derby match or a playoff game.

I hope you enjoy the A-League 24/25 season!

Firstly, I was prepared to put the AI predictions into the spreadsheet had one of them correctly named all 13 teams, sadly this did not happen.

Club Median Average stdev
Sydney FC 1.0 1.6 0.9
Melbourne Victory 2.0 3.1 2.2
Macarthur 4.0 4.9 2.7
Melbourne City 4.0 4.9 1.9
Wanderers 6.0 6.3 3.1
Central Coast 6.5 6.0 3.0
Auckland 6.5 6.2 2.0
Wellington 7.0 6.8 2.9
