The club press release doesn’t say how long Caballo’s contract is for.
I think someone dug up a tweet of maybe his agent saying its 2 years but it was ambiguous?

English clubs aren’t chumps about their player contracts in the same way we are…
They don’t have a salary cap that forces clubs only to go for off contract players…
Do we know that transfer fees count towards salary?
They shouldn’t and its stupid if they do. But if they’re a marquee it doesn’t really matter, I suppose.
Just spent a few minutes trying to find if there’s a publicly accessible document for the salary cap which there doesn’t appear to be. I found a PFA PDF from 2011-12, but that’s outdated.
I feel like transfer fees probably do count towards the salary cap. I know loans do, at least whatever percentage of wages area being paid.
So just out of interest, how long do we give the club until we start spamming this thread with Simpsons “where are the signings” memes? And in other terms of engagement, is it OK to reuse last season’s or is it strictly original content only?
With only 2, maybe 3 signings expected, then there is going to be a lot of Simpson’s memes posted in this thread over the next few months… If they announce Wood, ALF and Wilko all as putting pen to paper on new contracts, then it is going to be a very loooong off season
Yeah but thats ostensibly salary. Transfers fees aren’t salary.
Yes they should.
Otherwise CFG simply adds the n years of salary on top of the asking transfer price, and has the selling club pay that much to the player as a termination fee before they sign a minimum wage contract for Melbourne City.
Are there any rules in place to mitigate from some of the tricks available for these multi-club orgs? I thought that the Luke Brattan example where he went through City to City was no longer allowed. They could do that similarly for transfer fees couldn’t they?
Anyone think we’ll be back in the market for a big name marquee? Someone want to run the old filter over TransferMarkt for some speculation fuel: 35+, off contract, played in a Champions League, Euros or World Cup final.
APL could prohibit that specific type of thing or classify it as salary.
Busquets!
What’s Zlaten up to these days?
Surely, he could still boss this league whilst getting a tan and getting mobbed on Bondi Beach?
After Vuck’s miserable Nani experiment (and following on from Sturridge) I can only see clubs being cool on going for a proper marquee for a year or two until the “You know what this league needs to bring back? Bling Marquee$$” movement regathers steam.
Probably should add “plays attacking mid or forward” to that list of criteria.
Right now we are in the ‘This league needs to give more young players a chance’ phase, then we will move to the ‘This league needs to stop recycling players if we have any chance’ phase, before stealthy moving into the ‘We need more players from the NPL’ phase - then we can cycle back to the ‘We need some stardust with recognisable former EPL star’ phase… its a process.
Iniesta will have to do.
