ALM Squad Speculation Thread 2024/25 (Part 1)

Id be very surprised if all of Costa, Lolley and Sena are starting round 1. If we get them all on the park at the same time at any stage, I’ll be impressed.

He’s one of those guys for me where everyone raved about him but every time I watched him he was garbage.

Absolutely agree. Using one of Sena or Ouahim’s spot on an experienced CB would have given a much more balanced side and give Hollman the opportunity to continue to progress as CM. We’ve made some nice signings and theres a reason to be excited for each of the visa signings but the squad doesnt have the right balance.

I wonder also if we thought we were in with a genuine chance with Sainsbury.

Don’t suppose Rodwell has his citizenship sorted?

What’s Trent Mcclenahan up to these days?

Loan Ouahim out, and bring in a foreign defender on loan?

“Yeah, sorry mate, I know you were really keen to come to Australia, but we done fucked up with recruitment, so if you could y’know find a club in Europe for a year, that’d be great”.

^^ well being the Man United of Asia didn’t work out so maybe now we try being the Chelsea of Australia.

Yeah, I don’t mean as an out and out winger, but more of a wide 10, like Ninko in the 4222

Talking of moving players on, Max Burgess, anyone see how he fits into this squad now? He’s not a #6 and has at least 3 players ahead of him in the #10 role.
His wage could be better used on that CB position.

The only thing that might be saving Burgess’ spot with us is the ACL2 campaign. Even so, I do feel a little sorry for him, no matter how frustrating he is sometimes. I’m wondering if its a fitness thing. He wasn’t starting a lot last season, either.

Thats a fair point. Wood still fits into the side as a backup forward but Burgess doesnt really have a spot out wide where Segecic, Kucharski, Quintal, Amanatidis are all backups for the wings with more development in them. Caceres might play there too. And at 10 he’ll be behind at least Caceres and Ouahim.

Definitely worth an option to use if we were pursuing a in-league trade for a DM. Just not sure whod swap promising CB for a 29 year old LW/AM

Youth wise, what were our CBs like this season? I only watched a couple of games this NPL season.

There’s potential there, especially Calusic who seems highly rated and in the youth NT setup, but none of them are ready yet.

Another year of NPL and continued development should see them duking it out for Gurd’s first team spot (assuming Gurdy either doesn’t earn opportunities when they present themselves or then make the most of them, he’s off contract at seasons end and hasn’t made much of a case to be retained yet). That conveyor belt’s gotta keep moving!

Hybrid has seen more than I have, but from what I’ve seen, I agree none of the defenders should be getting promoted yet. That includes De Jesus, who has had more than his fair share of bad games at NPL level, never mind ALM level.

Sorry, just confirming, did anyone actually go pick up Costa? Or is he still stuck there??

He also may need to stop at Rebel on the way to buy some boots.

Make sure you take a boom box and play this song when he arrives.

I rocked up to Badgerys Creek, but the bloke holding the lollypop stop sign at the gate said flights won’t be landing for like another year, so I went back to work.

That is quite the Brazilian call back 10/10 - lets hope he is in better shape than the Pasha Bulker.

I agree with what Hybrid and BlueSky have said re. the NPL CB’s.

Tyler Williams, for mine, is the best prospect but at only 16yo he’s far from ready to be thrown into the A League side.
