Signing another player tomorrow?
Signing another player tomorrow?
Nah the bondi thing is just the presser for the derby being done at Bondi
The 22-year-old has quickly become a fan favourite
Undisclosed, apparently.
Hopefully it was tokenistic and not 2.5 millionā¦
They wouldnāt have, but even $100k is far too much. He has been far from outstanding. He is not a fan favourite, either. I donāt know why the club would say something like that.
$1 is too much to pay for him. Paid for an NPL grade player.
If heās signed for 3.5 years on min wage and is absolute last resort / choice then I can live with that, just.
Heās play 11 games for us and shown nothing. Why on earth the 3.5 year contract?
Plus he has OP, so canāt even play!
There has to be a better player in him surely? I didnāt watch much of Adelaide when he was there, but he must have been decent to get actually bought rather than just signed by Gwangju.
Still not a great look that Shaw came in - previously discarded by the club it seems - and didnāt look poor by comparison on debut.
Weāll see I guess.
He was very good at Adelaide, like Matthews with less mistakes
I seem to recall he was pretty tidy for at Adelaide too. Perhaps the club thinks they can get more out of him and build on the form he had then, and a long-term deal helps with possibilities of us getting a transfer fee in future if thatās what the plan is too.
Itās weird because people on socials and other forums are all very positive about this Popovic signing. Maybe we have created some sort of echo chamber where we all hate on him unreasonably? To me he has been objectively bad though, it canāt just be us on SFCUā¦
Hes a central defender, i dont expect him to be at his peak at 22yo. Writing him off after a dozen games when hes played with all sorts of partners is a bit premature. Presumably with that contract length you would think his wage demands arent outrageous, otherwise it would be a gamble.
How many players in any positions have we ever signed for 3+ years? Thats a big show of confidence. Is he going to be the next Wilco, well probably not. Does he have the ceiling of Matthews- well thats irrelevant because he wouldnt be here if so.
For a problem position Iām ok with it. Talay hasnt exactly brought poor players, its more his system and ability to get the most out of it which is a concern
3.5 years, fuck me dead! Unless weāre getting him on some dirt cheap wages (canāt see that happening) thatās a joke.
No hate on him, just havenāt seen what I would expect from someone talked about so highly and who got a good move to Asia.
Really hope he shines though.
He was good at Adelaide and heās young still, he can get back to that with some consistent time and partner
I wouldnāt be surprised if the wages are relatively modest. For a young player, itās a good move to sign a long contract with a club that has a good reputation. Itās a guaranteed pay cheque, but also a solid stint with a club on a CV, and assuming he gets decent playing time, it will allow him to continue his football development and progress his career. The compromise is a lower wage compared with a shorter deal.
For a young footballer, there would always be a worry of going out of contract and not being picked up by a professional club, descending into the NPL and out of the fully professional environment.
My memory of him at Adelaide was that there was a lot of scrambling, blocking, tackling etc so he was noticeable in way that say Wilko never was (ridiculous comparison, of course, but youād hope the positioning / reading has improved with experience but we havenāt seen that yet).
I just donāt see in the season so far what heās done to earn 3 and a half years.
Reading the comments from fans of his Korean team, they seemed to like him. Or maybe they are just polite. With such a long contract, we might be able to sell him on to an international club after a year or so of solid performances. Make a bit of that filthy lucre transfer money
Adelaide fans were big fans too. Seem disappointed he returned to not them and then signed a 3 year contract with another team in the league
