Obviously it wasn’t working out towards the end of his tenure in Sydney but four trophies in four seasons and on track for a fith in five would suggest that he isn’t a trash manager.

To play devils advocate, there could be behind the scene talks that could involve some of the foreign midfield being let go early, with Burgess stepping up to fill one of those holes. There was plenty of talk here about Burgess going during the last transfer period which never really eventuated.
Obviously much to be seen as to what happens in the future though.
Even if that were the case, it’s difficult to make Burgess make sense as the replacement. If it’s Costa, Lolley or Ouahim only a madman would play Burgess ahead of Sega or to a lesser extent Kucharski. If it’s Sena, Burgess is a terrible replacement.

Could see Burgess as good backup though? Or could see him playing in a different role etc. Either way, it’s quite obvious we need to get rid of at least on of our foreign contingent in the midfields and we also need to retain the Aussies we currently have. At this stage if we let go of a foreigner, i’d assume we’d be having a look at a foreign defender to replace them. I’d still try and keep Klimala in the setup if we can.
Burgess would surely be too expensive to keep on as a backup. He’s obviously content to see out his contract regardless here, so he must be getting paid well enough not to want to leave in this situation. I don’t think its his fault the club didn’t get value for money whenever he extended his contract.
Any reason to not accept that Corica inherited the greatest domestic football team that this country has ever seen and ran it into the ground I suppose.

I dunno, i’m still on the fence of Sega. He’s undoubtedly absolutely amazing coming off the bench, but whenever he’s started, he’s generally failed to produce. A career as an impact sub isn’t going to too far overseas.
