Hardly. He played in La Liga, sure, but with lower-table clubs that spend time in Segunda. He is about as much of a marquee as Ono, and no comparison to a world cup finalist/winner.

It’s always about the right balance. If a marque coming in means you must neglect areas of need then youre not going to win.

Perfect fit. He needs to be a pivotal player. He’s not going to be that at a place like Sydney where we invariably bring in better, highly paid overseas people to take the key roles. He needs to be on the ball, but him being on it means that Costa or Lolley or Caceres or Sena aren’t. Fair enough then there’s no proper place for him here, but a less turnip-headed coach would have found a way of using him to better rest the big names rather than just throwing his salary into the ether.
