Hard to be excited for the signing especially as it feels like he’s a replacement for Lolley. Also not a good sign when a players complaining over position to play.
Hopefully he’s more of a Kamsoba surprise and not a Sotirio “that went exactly as expected”.
I don’t know what’s worse. The Brisbane social media kids (let’s face it, they’re not paying someone, it’ll be someone kid) terrible joke, or the prospect of Lolley thinking Brisbane, with no money, no facilities, no future and no hope is a better prospect than playing under Talay.
I would suggest that losing salary cap concessions for long-term players as definitely massively hampered what we can pay players and stay within the cap. Throw in a drop in the salary cap, it’d be hitting us fairly hard when a portion of your exempted salaries are out and then need to tighten the belt. Many of the other clubs would have just been working within the regular salary cap.
In terms of being undesirable, unless there’s some massive stuff happening in terms of player welfare, behind the scenes, we’re not even close to the basket case of Western United, Brisbane Roar or Adelaide. We’re paying players on time, we’ve moved a large number of players to lucrative gigs overseas, we’re not looking at being wound up by the ATO and we’re not implicated in betting scandals.
I would maybe suggest that our signing policy and Talay is where we’re being massively hampered. For the past 10 years or so, we’ve always waited very late in the season, to sign players, which means you’re left scraping the barrel at times, while at other times, you might find a good deal with a player desperate to sign but not being able to do so.
I think our foreign targets at #9 and CB are likely to be filled in later. There’s always more competition among ALM clubs for quality Aussies who might be lured overseas, whereas the reverse may be true of foreigners not looking to move 18 hours away from family.
If our main striker came out and said there were plenty positives from the season, you’d be having a go at him for that… Literally can’t win. He called it what it was and that’s it. Looking deeper into it is silly.
Does anything about that make sense? We’re open to offloading Lolley to another club, but apparently we’ll only do so if he gets a long term offer. In the meantime, we’re refusing to allow him to leave to go to Perth, the club that he reportedly wanted to go to himself.
So the club he wants to go to, we said no, but we’re open to him leaving to go to a different club, that may or may not include Perth.
