I want to add an ‘amazing scenes’ page to my stats website. It will be automatically generated by some criteria (so naturally won’t be as good as this list, which I’ll link to as the definitive version), but I’m hoping to get some opinions on what would hypothetically qualify.

  • A 90+/120+ minute winner, obviously
  • In the second leg of a two-legged tie, I assume only a 90+ minute (or 120+ minute) goal that wins the tie for Sydney would qualify (even if the match itself is a loss/draw)?
  • What about a 90+/120+ minute equaliser that sends the match to extra time/penalties, which Sydney subsequently wins?
  • Anything else?

I know none of the more complicated ones have happened, but I just want to avoid re-writing the criteria if one does in the future.

The top thread has the criteria for each category

EXTRAORDINARY SCENES - The scenes to end all scenes
Amazing Scenes 90+ Min winner
Awesome Scenes 80+ Min Winner
Adequate Scenes 90+ Min Equaliser
Historic Scenes - No description, but usually firsts of some kind or generally memorable moments

Sure, but I imagine a 90+ minute winner in the second leg of a two-legged tie that we lost 1-4 on aggregate wouldn’t make the list, even though it meets that ‘Amazing scenes’ criterion? Similarly, maybe Antonis’ own goal last season would’ve made it if we’d ended up winning that match. As it is, it meets the ‘adequate scenes’ criterion but I don’t know if many would argue it should be there.

Again, just hypothetical to avoid having to rewrite the SQL if anything like that happens. And just doing Amazing Scenes with this thread being the definitive list of all #scenes

(I’m aware I’m overthinking this )

You can’t have an algorithm for this kind of thing. It’s about the vibe.

Yeh, fair call. I was getting that feeling as I was writing my last post.

In summing up, it’s the constitution, it’s Mabo, it’s justice, it’s law, it’s the vibe and aah no that’s it, it’s the vibe. I rest my case.

Historic moments / matches / amazing scenes suggestions:

  • Matt Simon vs CCM, Premiership decider 17/18
  • Bobo vs Vuck, effectively premiership decider 16/17
  • Bobo vs Adelaide United, FFA Cup Final

I’m not sure if any of the former qualify under the types of scenes Nulla has orginally created. I do however feel that they are very important so I am putting forth a new category for where silverware is won but no in a way that would qualify for the former scenes formats.
Scenes of silverware (trademark pending) for team or individual performances that win us silverware but do not meet the other already established categories.
I defer to the scenes overlord to determine the worthiness of this proposal.

Thanks for that, I was wondering if there were any Amazing Scenes from last season lost with the forum changeover.

FFA Cup win should definitely be included too. Personally, I’m not so keen on including the premiership deciders. The premiership is the sum of all the games not just the one that clinches it, a nil-all draw could do it. I would prefer a short season recap like the Road to Glory clip instead. Also conscious about not diluting the significance by including too much. In saying that, I don’t set the rules, I just administer them, happy to be guided by the masses.

Amazing scenes ahoy! One for the ages!

May need a new entry for the Wollongong shootout

Sounds sinister

Having witnessed several disturbing acts around the Wollongong CBD on Sunday night, it should be referred to as the Wollongong shoot up.

I have a massive soft spot for the region, but Wollongong has surely got to be the meth capital of NSW.

Unfortunately I think the Hunter has us pipped these days. We’re too poor for meth. I think we’re the “picking cigarette butts up off the street to smoke the dregs” capital of Australia these days.

I’m in Katoomba for a few days and this place will give anywhere a run for meth capital of nsw
