Shit. Looks like they’ve forgotten something and are heading back.
Shit. Looks like they’ve forgotten something and are heading back.
The fools, the NT right back country is west of Bathurst, not south!
They’re heading for Yaaaaaaaass, Queen.
Looking at that map I can only assume it’s just like the start of the Sydney to Hobart and budding pilots have taken to the air to guide the boys in.
Pretty sure Paul Wade has Maradona’s shirt from that game.
turns out we are both right, Slater got it after the match but Wade got 1 a bit later after pestering him it seems like
but I’m only half right as I think Slater has indeed sold his and given the money to charity
Thanks, for filling me in. I used to see Wadey quite a bit a few years ago and whenever we talked about that game he always mentioned Maradona’s shirt.
I know it is a one of his valued possessions.
I hear Alex Tobin’s shirt from the second leg is in a football museum in Buenos Aries.
Cumdog + the owner of a match-worn Messi shirt/Fence breaker. Cummings is so friendly. Devlin is very smol. 🤏🏽
Various tidbits on Arnie and whether he will continue according to different articles:
Slater says he thinks Arnie will continue having spoken to him. yesterday Noteworthy because as we know, Arnie and Slater are pretty close
FA going to do a review which will take till the new year and Arnie going to the UK for six week for a break. Suspect we won’t have any idea who is coaching Australia until Feb or March - no fixtures for Aust. listed anywhere so may be longer.
Rumoured that Arnie has two national team and two club offers…
Rumours that the FA have Aloisi as their number one choice to replace Arnie if needed… Aloisi has said he would be keen. (Kewell also has stated his want to coach the Socceroos in recent weeks, not that I think he is in the discussion).
He deserves the opportunity to take the team to the Asian Cup. If we can keep the majority of the squad for that tournament
Although a lucrative contract at a European club team would be hard to turn down. Although remains to be seen whether he is given the time to implement his style, or whether he’s expected to hit the ground running.
Would be interesting to know what national team offers he’s supposedly had so far. I suspect their AFC countries, Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re Middle Eastern nations. Could see the likes of Qatar throwing a fuck ton of money at him.
If Arnie does move on to more lucrative pastures, Harry Kewell and John Aloisi are NOT the answer. Neither have experience at international level, and both have not exactly shown much pedigree with their respective club managerial gigs. John Aloisi is displaying with Western United’s performances this season that his Grand Final last season was somewhat of a fluke.
Worried a review drags out too long and Arnie looks elsewhere. Is there really that much to review?
And as much as I love Aloisi, he really should not be the top Aussie on the list. He’s still early in his coaching career and has had more bad than good seasons. Absolutely dont think hes ready yet. If we replace Arnie with an Aussie its got to be Popovic (or Muscat).
From current Australian coaches, I think Muscat is really the only one that could pick up where Arnie left off - and he isn’t going to want it… I fear Popovic would take quite a different tact with the team and go in the wrong direction a bit.
If I was his agent I’d be leveraging the fuck out of these negotiations. Those tightarses at the FA need to pay the cashier or someone else will.
Not knowing him from a bar of soap, he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who gets hung up on money. Seems like he’d rather see something through and accomplish it. If that was Round of 16 then so be it, but given his comments in the news lately around football needing more funding in Australia I dare say he has a bit more on that to do list with the national team(s).
I do hope (may be unpopular opinion) that Arnie eventually has that Merrick role, overseeing development etc . for the FA - ditch the curriculum and put in place something that suits the Australian football landscape - including having him really go at it to try and get some sort of national academy established… obviously this would be a fair bit down the track - but still think he would be perfect for that type of role at some stage
I feel that things like a national academy, or institute or whatever can be elitist in a detremental way. Essentially, building stacked squads that smash lesser opponents each week and melt down when they get beaten. I also feel that there is something to be gained by growing the game in communities that are less than affluent. Some of the worlds best have come up from literal slums; Maradona, Ronaldinho and Mark Viduka for example.
