Australian National Team Thread - #PopaOut!

Any of them thought of standout prospects? The only names I know of there are the SFC kids and I don’t really know anything about them in any case. Anthony Pavlesic brother to Adam?

They’re all rubbish and no one should look at them.

Lazy 23-0 win first up.

18-0 with 20 minutes left…
Who told them to take their foot off the gas??

We beat china 3-1 to top our group and qualify for the cup

Irankunda with 2 goals and an assist against China.

The Uzbeks beat Korea the other day too.

Edit: Just saw that there’s no host for the finals as yet. Be nice to see us try and get them.

Arzani putting on the type of display today that might just get him back into Socceroos contention. Well taken goal, good play to set up the second plus some good free kick deliveries.

Cummings also do himself no harm with how he played.

Problem with Arzani is that he just doesn’t do the hard work when the team isn’t in possession. That’s going to seriously hamper his chances of selection when we’re likely to be defending at the World Cup for long periods.

Hrustic has an ankle injury and now in doubt for the World Cup

Fold the club

Not the strongest squad, but one we should be incredibly proud of

Damn, now I’m going to have to go and buy the New Jersey.

Respect to the lads. Can’t really do anything more apart from boycotting altogether which is not really realistic

The usual depressing comments online telling the players that sport and politics don’t mix. Didn’t realise that advocating for basic human rights was a political issue :man_facepalming:

Thats awesome!

I haven’t seen any of those. Just loads of whataboutery, pointing out things we are awful at, which I can only assume gives Qatar an exemption from criticism.

FWIW, I agree with coming out and calling it out. Most if at all Middle Eastern nations have an abhorrent “human rights” record.

But at the end of the day, it’s their religion which are dictating their rules. Unlike a lot of the world which has moved on from archaic religious rules that make no sense in a 21st century setting, many Middle Eastern nations are stuck in a previous century’s religious mindset.

Is it?

Autocracy comes in all sorts of religions. Look at the Buddhists running Myanmar.

I think religion is a useful tool for the autocrats but the issue is the autocrats themselves. Many of the people being oppressed in places like Iran are Muslim too, and Muslim or not, I don’t reckon that truly free and fair elections would yield the sort of repressive regimes that we see now.

So proud of the Socceroos for calling this shit out, even while acknowledging their limited understanding of these kind of things.

The only thing missing was publicly rinsing Tim Cahill over his support of Qatar.

Well done lads.

Great stuff!

But how and why did they get Alfie Solomons from Peaky Blinders to open and close that video?
