Australian National Team Thread - #PopaOut!

Aaaaand Uzbekistan just equalised. Iran was up 2-nil at half time. The old cliche is true.

Sleepy looking all over and especially down the left side with Behich and Goodwin. If we don’t match their urgency in the second half we’re going to get done here.

The return leg is supposed to be next year in June. I wonder what the situation will be by then in Gaza and whether the game’ll actually be in Australia. Even going to Kuwait was a big ask of the Palestinians.

I’m disappointed one of the sub keepers didn’t go on last game. Can’t take Ryan off with it so close.

I’m sure time in the camp is good for them regardless, but being a sub keeper on international duty is often a bit of a bum deal, especially if they’re first choice for their clubs.

LOL at B–g A–rage trying to sprint on early. 4th official told him off.

Reactions fairly solemn at the end.

Not pretty but three points is three points.

My decision 10 years ago to never get up / stay up for these middle east early AM qualifiers justified once again

Souttar has one and two less international goals than Maclaren and Duke respectively but has played eleven less matches.

Was always going to be a tough match. We struggle in the ME. Wether it be the conditions, or whatever.

Palestine were always going to be up for it. Good to get the win, workmanlike but got the job done.

Harry Souttar is going to be our record NT goalscorer by the time he retires. Tim Cahill watch out!

I watched the game on replay up until the first goal, decided to check the final score on FotMob and when it confirmed that there would be no more goals I stopped watching. Not one for the neutrals

Unlike Maclaren, he has actually scored against a quality opponent.

I seriously doubt the FA did this on their own accord.

Tough, tough game. Winning ugly is still winning. Matt Ryan had a blinder.

Article states it was player-led and the FA was matching the donation. The only thing that sort of shits me, is that all of those Socceroos are going to be on some pretty decent coin. If you’re going to do that, surely you donate it all?

Not really, some like Gauci are not on that much and there are absolutely no guarantees that in future that will change much. Additionally, their Socceroos money would proportionally matter to them more than to those being well paid at their clubs, so it ends up affecting them more. It’s like the GST really

Agree completely, but Israel’s defenders can’t allow a good example to go unpunished… if they have any social capital left after this war is over.

I haven’t been following the story closely but the only criticism I saw was some that ALM highlighted which was someone from the Palestinian side criticizing them for whatever vague reason they invented.

I did some people saying it wasn’t enough, but is it ever? Happy they did something.

You all obviously miss the Israel flag bombing on socials about the match/donation…
