So many of these comments on social media. Clubs can reject call-ups and so the team selections were massively influenced by that. Pretty clear City would rather their star striker has an offseason and some time off rather than going to the Olympics and risking a long term injury.
The can reject call ups but for a fair few players, playing in the Olympics would be a decent proposition. I mean Messi has won a gold medal when he was well into his career. The Covid situation throws a spanner in the works obviously.
The season isn’t starting until the end of October, that’s a ton of time to recover before next season
Do we have World Cup Qualifiers between the Olympics and the A-League season? If so you’d basically be asking Maclaren to go from A-League season to Olympic camp to World Cup Qualifier camp and then to pre-season, meaning he would likely not get a significant break.
Yeah, could well be a case of Arnie choosing to use him more in the qualifiers rather than at the Olympics.
