Agreed in principle but it won’t happen because fans are seemingly far enough down the list of stakeholders.
Tbh if there’s one person whose position should be more untenable it’s Di Pietro at MV. His actions last week, the complete cowardice and deliberate ambiguity in a bid to save his own arse / cred, most definitely contributed to inflaming the situation. Saw countless stuff on the socials about how MV fans were on board with him standing up for them and “sticking it to Sydney” when he resigned from the APL board. No doubt there were folks in that active end believing the same.
He was in prime position to engage, explain, and reduce tensions pre-game. He failed.
At the AAMI park final where we lost to Victory we got dragged into Beer Deluxe post game by the police and got told not to leave until they said we could. Didn’t encounter too much else, though we hid our SFC gear on the trip back. Still, the fact this shit happens is outrageous. Bunch of cunts.
If anyone can see past the paywall:

Is there anything of interest in this story? From the headline, seems like that main bloke who sconed Glover has given himself up.
Excellent stalking, that man
Does anyone know what a “lifetime ban” is in practice?
Is there anything more backing it up than venues just not letting you in if by some miracle someone at the gate recognises you? Seems to me unless there were some real stakes, ie being in breach of some sort of control order just for being near the venue, then there’s not much to stop the dedicated arsehole.
“On Monday afternoon police said another two men had “made themselves known to police”, bringing the total to four. Police had released a series of images on Sunday night of people they believed could assist with their investigation. Two men had made themselves known to police on Sunday night.”
Seems pissypants handed himself in
There are fairly significant consequences for breaching a ban, at least in NSW, up to and including jail time. Enforcement is very patchy, a book of banned people is usually distributed to security and staff, and it works as well as you’d imagine.
Without requiring ID for entry, it’s quite hard to see an easy enforcement solution without passport control type tech. In the UK they use facial recognition in a lot of stadiums but its expensive and still fairly easy to fool.
For serious offenders in the UK they required them to show up at game time at a police station right? Not sure if that is still done or if it would even be legal over here.
Some pubs have a ‘scan in with your licence’ system. If money and gate factors were feasible (acknowledging they probably are not), I wonder if that could be a probationary option for Victory (in partnership with other punishments, e.g. after initial attendance bans).
I heard Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch” twice in like 4 songs at the gym this afternoon.
I think it’s a sign.
The only thing that will save us now.
The return of the SIN CITY CREW!!!
I’m starting to get annoyed by the constant “They weren’t football fans” talk.
Bullshit. They’re all wearing Horda/OSM/etc merch. They’ve been around for ~15 years, they ARE football people, and Victory management have continually ignored them this whole time.
My brother in law decided to attend the local derby in Budapest. He had great trouble even buying a ticket without a national driver’s license, but I think he talked them into it with his passport. If these people will attend in spite of lifetime bans, requiring ID to buy a ticket isn’t unreasonable.
I think it is. Put the onus on them rather than everyone else who attends a game.
By their deeds shall ye know them.
I thought one of those charged with offences was 18… a fifteen year association is a hell of a commitment to violence
What do you propose that will stop repeat offenders who have “lifetime bans” from getting in?
Police Stations are already places people have to report to. And I think they’d rather that hassle than the hassle in the ground.
Given the commonality between UK law and our law we can probably install it here. Trial it in Victoria.
Not to attend any regulated football match or a particular football ground, with the additional condition to report to a particular police station at kick off times.

Yeah but I bet in the UK they can rush home and hit “Play from start”.
