Not a white van advertising confectionery?
The last normal round of NPL football is this weekend, followed by 4 v 1 and 2 v 3 semis, and then finals. Here’s a summary of the changes coming to women’s football in NSW next season (not the advertisement at the top)
Aivi Luik has tested positive to a prohibited substance.
It occurred 2 years ago in Italy and is the reason why she removed herself from selection for the Olympics.
From the article I read there was no test
Seems a very odd case.
Western Sydney have confirmed that they are running women’s NPL teams next season. Tactically, it looks like they have timed it perfectly with the demise of NSW Football Institute and the changes to the club championship rules. Essentially, WSW can have their pick of the Institute girls (filling up to half their squad) and basically their pick of everyone else including kids in their Wonder Woman program. I can’t help but feel that Sydney FC have missed a massive opportunity in this sphere and will be playing catchup once Wests have established themselves.
When we do start ours, we will be knocking back so many players that want to play here.
I thought we’d already started, just not publicly announced that we’d joined the comp yet. The academy was set up 6+ months ago.
What i meant was when we start our path in entering the comp.
In before the underhwelming interim coach wins a few games and gets the gig full time
I’m not much of a coaching expert - but is this a good thing? I assume this is an actual interim appointment and the international search for a new head coach won’t just end with him being appointed permanently?
It’s kinda a “We tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas” appointment.
The man is 70. Like he did win the Asian Cup. 14 years ago. And he last coached the Matildas 12 years ago. Looks like he was head of football at WSW so at least he should know what’s going on.
It’s interim unless they can’t find someone most likely from Europe in the mean time.
As interim, it’s a good appointment. For long term, as anything, you got to keep bringing the new ‘kids’ through.
Don’t ask too hard though as Sydney may regret it.
I think we missed the chance for a top tier manager who isn’t Australian. A home world cup with a decent side would have been attractive. We wasted it on Gustavsson.
They cant fuck this one up. Going into a home Asian cup now - in the same year as a mens world cup - is a massive opportunity for the game.
And no top manager wanted to touch the Matildas job after the Stajcic debacle. They probably still don’t, to be honest. Gallop and the rest of the suits at the time did damage to the women’s game here that will take a very long time to recover from completely.
But they will.
Playing Switzerland now for anyone that’s awake… On p+.
I thought it was weird paramount had them in the up next part last night - but it said 5am Friday, which had been and gone. 5am Saturday makes more sense.
