I dare say it would be a training torpedo as they’re designed to float when they run out of propellant whereas a real torpedo sinks.
It certainly doesn’t look to be 80 years old so my guess is it is an aircraft launched (P8?) training torpedo that was lost during ex Diamond Spear or Shield.
Normally the nose but the second photo I posted is from 2024.
This video is also in the article
Apart from the white nose cone, there’s no bright coloured section. 6 - 12 months in the ocean could seriously discolour that section through growth or potentially even make the cap fall off.
Either way, I highly doubt it’s an active torpedo. We just don’t go about launching real torpedos in the EAXA.
Just to allay those fears, a torpedo’s range is only around 5 Nautical Miles. The Chinese ships were 120+ nautical miles off our coast for the majority of the time they were out there.
There’s no way it’s one of theirs even if they launched it directly towards our coastline, it would still be in the middle of the Tasman.
their questions were surprisingly short and fairly open ended. Just the usual, where is it parked etc. Apparently they’re really bad when actually honouring the policy, failing to give refunds for paid excess, not investigating anything etc.
If you want that, can’t remember which insurer we used for home and contents, but one of them was asking questions like:
what are the windows made of
are there trees greater than 10m within 2m of the property line
do the doors open inwards
what are the width of the entry ways
Shit like that. It was absolutely horrible and apparently just answering yes to the tree one sends it skyrocketing.
Yeah… I made that mistake. Compare the market is just crap these days, so just did individual ones. Didn’t realise that Youi makes you go through the whole process and then gets someone to call you. I realised that and have refused to answer my phone. 5 missed calls, 1 sms and an email and they’re still trying…
I’ve been with Bingle for about 10 years and never had an issue. We had an excess refunded within 5 business days and when our car was written off due to floods the market value was in our account super quick.
