True but when the other teams catch up their games played on us we’ll be more like 5th or 6th you’d think. Still though is that bad enough to sack a manager? Probably not - we’d have to be missing out on finals by quite a bit for the club to take urgent action.
All things considered at this stage of the season with around 10 games left and a possible finals run there’s probably not enough reason to let him go.
Yeah, realise that the other teams have games in hand.
I don’t really agree with his tactics, but I’m with you in thinking that it’s very unlikely he’d get the sack any this point.
Also, while a lot of us don’t agree with his decisions and tactics, you’ve only got to look back at the Corica and Arnie eras and recognise that there was a lot of the same sentiment then. Even during the record breakers season under Arnie, we were criticising Arnie for leaving substitutions way too late and making the same subs around the same time in every game.
Apart from the initial “new coach honeymoon period”, I don’t think we’ll ever be satisfied and content with the coach. But that just normal as football fans.
Talay is only going if we get embarrassed in the acl. The club will let him see out the year regardless of results. If we fail miserably. He will be sacked.
His contract is up at the end of this season, right? Or did he renew?
If he gets us past Lions and to an ACL2 final - is that a successful season? Enough to give him another few years?
I reckon maybe no? He started strongly. We looked more cohesive last season, but this season I reckon we look like we got it wrong from the first kick of the season and we’ve never really got it quite right.
Jury out till end of the season. He’s reinforced the defence which was our weakest point. Let’s see how the next few weeks go. If we play better, im happy to extend for one more season, with an option for an extra season as well.
He’s contracted for next year already isn’t he? I doubt he’ll be extended this year regardless of what happens, but if he wins either the ACL2 or the championship you’d have to think he’d be safe for the first half of next season.
Only if we win the ACL2 and have a good finals run should he get renewed imo. Anything less and he has underperformed with this team, and he has skated through based on players like Costa/Lolley/Segecic bailing him out which any manager could do.
I dont feel like progressing in the ACL but tanking our AL season is acceptable at all.
for any manager of this club the following should be expectations:
Top 2 - expectation
Top 4 - bare minimum
5th - 6th - only acceptable due to circumstance e.g. injuries / new manager coming in midway through season
Outside finals - immediate sacking.
im happy to give him a pass as long as the team is starting to look better. The defense was obviously screwed when we signed Costa, but with Grant in, im happy to give him another year on the condition that we look like a decent playing team that can win.
