Everything is on fire - the US politics thread

Yelling??? So archaic, two cups and a string would be way roe confidential, although you need to make sure no one taps into the string…

Hard to not think at the moment that Trump is quite happy for C-19 to continue to spread while he destroys the USPS - polls clearly show that Republican voters will continue to turn up to the in person voting booths on election day while Dems much more likely to opt for mail in voting… … crazy that a sitting president can do this and basically get away with it…

Kimberly Guilfoyle talking at the Republican convention, holy shit it’s like listening too a Hitler or Mussolini speech…

Just watched a few snippets, mental. Also is it normal for the speakers at these conventions to be family members of the president? That’s something i’d expect from some tinpot dictatorship

American politics is a tin pot dictatorship

Its not the republican convention - rather Tump family showcase. Utterly ridiculous.

And it’ll work.

Isn’t he rolling out his family because Biden can’t do the same?

Option 1: He’s trying to project a “family man” image to lure Biden into bringing his son out thus bringing Ukraine/Russia back into play.

Option 2: He’s being a complete dick and playing on the death of Biden’s wife and 2 of his children.

Call me a cynic but I highly suspect it’s option #2

Betting market as of today…
BIDEN $1.75
TRUMP $2.20
H. CLINTON $67
HARRIS $67
KANYE $101

Oh and don’t forget that today they accused Biden on nepotism whilst having Tiffany Trump, Eric Trump and then FLOTUS all speak on the one day, never mind that Don Jr and his girlfriend (the one that just yelled at the camera) spoke yesterday.

Having watched bits and pieces of it yesterday and today, and having watched a lot of the Dems last week - it is such a stark contrast…like completely different orbits. Trumps base would be loving the messaging coming from their convention… I think he will pull himself back into the race a little bit after this week.

Though - Biden spoke about Beau an awful lot (fair enough to) and he featured heavily in clips, especially when it came to Harris being nominated and their relationship as state prosecutors etc.

Can’t wait for the first debate… though I am concerned that Biden is going to gaffe his way through it - but hope remains for at least ‘c’mon maaan’ in Trumps direction. Harris v Pence is going to be great to watch as well

I think we can all be bucks fans today.

So good! At this stage, conservatives aren’t going to have any sports to watch… They’re against NASCAR and NFL already, now NBA, pretty soon they’ll be down to beer pong…

What have I missed?

The Bucks didn’t take to the court in their play off game in protest of another police shooting - The Brewers (baseball) looking to boycott their next game as well.

Sadly, I think it will just be seen by Republicans as rich celebrities / sport stars trying to throw their weight around and not what ‘middle America’ wants / is

There’s been another boycott in the Baseball league. All linked to police brutality protests

All the NBA play off games today have been postponed after the players refused to play

One thought, the Democrats, if they win, are going to be taking over an absolute shit storm. You already have issues with mass protests country wide, throw in mass protests by right wing nutjobs who are going to be claiming fraud, then throw in Coronavirus and even if a vaccine is found, with the amount of nutjobs in America, how many will actually take it? Especially if they’re being told by a Democrat President that it’s safe…

In all seriousness, if Biden wins, he’s going to literally have to steer the country away from a civil war…

Whereas if Trump wins he’ll be steering them towards a civil war.

Saw a poll yesterday where only 54% of Americans would take a vaccine if they can afford it. I have seen other polls in the last few weeks where that number varies between 65% to 75%, still not enough to stop the virus from circulating in large swaths through the community (is my understanding).

If Biden does win, he has a big job in front of him, but he is essentially a ‘transition’ president, maybe only a one term president.

80% immunity is the bare minimum to stop transmission.

Well, now Trump has gone and said this in his nomination acceptance speech:

We are delivering life-saving therapies. And we’ll produce a vaccine before the end of the year – or maybe even sooner,"

What does he care if it doesn’t happen, he wont be up for reelection
