I hate Trump and everything he stands for and I find Halloween tiresome “American crap”. I didn’t know you couldn’t be one and not the other 
At worst halloween is pretty harmless. On the positive side we have few enough local community type things in this country nowadays that I think neighbourhoods doing trick-or-treat stuff is great. On top of that the bigger it gets the further “commercial” Christmas gets pushed back towards December.

At the very least it is an occasion for millions of tonnes of cheap shitty Chinese-made plastic crap to enjoy a few week reprieve on people’s housefronts on its way to a landfill/river/ocean near you.
I get it, the little kids in their get up and excitement for the occasion are cute, and it keeps them busy for a few hours, and you get to take custody of their takings “for their own health protection”, but the waste does my head in more than the American-ness.

Diwali gets a good run at work these days.
My local supermarkets are full of Diwali crap at the moment (cheap decorations, disposable plates etc), in fact I saw last night, in a fairly small ‘local’ supermarket, they had given one whole aisle to flog Diwali and Halloween tat. Literally every holiday has been commercialised now to some degree.
God help me if my 3 year-old daughter walks down one of those aisles. They’re a pain!

I fucking hate Halloween but for some reason my Facebook feed has been full of Halloween decorations from the US.
If it is real, the skeleton set up in someone’s front yard watching a tv showing covert cameras of other skeletons going about their lives is fantastic.

I like Halloween. It’s essentially a festival of the dead walking the Earth & way that people have of coming to terms with death. Halloween, Day of the Dead & All Soul’s Day are all the same thing.
To illustrate, the opening of Spectre, now besides the James Bond blowing shit up thing I like how the Mexicans do it.

I took my daughter through coles and she completely ignored all the black and orange toff. She doesnt care that the two neighbours have draped their house with spider webs and filled the yard with skeletons.
I am so proud. And resigned that next year im probably going to have to buy that shit for us.
