Sorry, I’m not au fait with the angle it no longer constitutes a nazi salute, but like porn, I know it when I see it. He knew exactly what he was doing and exactly the reaction it would provoke. I can’t wait till he gets thrown to the wolves when the rest of them tire of his bullshit.
Shocked that a notorious far-right agitator would do such a thing, and then hide behind deniable plausibility.
Such a thing has never ever happened before.
I think you may be misreading the situation for the following reasons;
Overload and misdirection. We are talking about this (the Nazi salute) and not more serious matters like the hundred odd EOs Trump just signed and their implications. I think what Musk did was deliberate but the purpose was to deflect away from what Trump is doing on his first day not to promote the far right (though it does that as well).
Disruption. Like many managers who cannot claim a management position based on talent, Trump games the system to maintain authority. He actively encourages all those working for him to argue and bicker with each other. Whilst Miller and Musk and Bannon are tearing each other down they are not tearing Trump down, and at the end of the day Trump gets to resolve any dispute thus making him look more reasonable than the squabblers and demonstrating his authority.
If Trump got rid of Musk he would have to find another Musk to replace him. No other billionaire is as dependent on government contracts as Musk.
I think you’re giving them WAY too much credit if you think they got Musk up there to do a Nazi solute so no one would talk about the EOs. Especially when you look at the fact that Elon is 100% pushing extreme right wing groups throughout the world. It’d be more likely that he has some sort of dream that he takes over the government and saves the world from Trump.
While you’re not wrong about the management and the need for Musk, the problem is that you have two people that 100% think they’re above the government. Musk needs the government less than he feels the government needs Musk. Think about DOGE, he’s acting like some superhero swooping in to save the government from his own spending, despite the fact that he’s continuously shown some pretty bad management skills, only winning after gambling, in the knowledge that a loss would still mean he’s rich
